We Are What We Think…Our Thoughts Make Our World!

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

“We are what we think.  All that we are arises with our thoughts.  With our thoughts, we make our world.”  The Buddha

This is one of my favorite quotes and I think it is really important which is why I wanted to share and break down my interpretation and what it means to me.

Now I take what I think is a unique twist on the first line, “We are what we think.” Many people may interpret this as if I think something I will become that and maybe that is true, but I take the inverse interpretation.  We already are what we think first before we even think it, therefore, just thinking something new that we are not will not bring change until we are that first.

This I believe because in all of us we have a desire to be truthful.  Therefore, if we know we are not something (at least not yet) then we will unconsciously undermine that idea in order to remain truthful to ourselves.  This is why it is so critical to find who you are and when needed make changes to yourself at that core level.  Then your thoughts will reflect that new version of yourself.

“All that we are arises with our thoughts.”  I see this as who we are manifests in our thoughts.  This is important because that means our thoughts are clues to who we are deep down inside.

“With our thoughts, we make our world.”  If we take this to the first part and assume my definition to be accurate then it would say we create who we are, they manifest them in our thoughts and those thoughts become our reality.  The key still remains in finding your true self and making changes when needed.  Once that is accomplished, your thoughts will manifest to reinforce your core and the world will bend to those thoughts further enforcing that reality you created.

The power of the mind is never something to take for granted…it is a key to the world that we want!
