Self Improvement is a journey, not a destination.
With these 7 steps to self improvement you will realize that self improvement is in fact a journey. Have you ever been at a place where you just want to give up. The upward battle is exhausting. It sucks you dry of energy and motivation when you try so hard to move forward with little reward.
It seems some people live the life of their dreams effortlessly. I know it sounds childish, but some times it just doesn’t seem fair.. I seem to lost count on how many times I’ve read and heard of celebrity marriages failing almost left and right. Not that I care (and personally I don’t), it seems strange that we often see movie and TV stars as flawless people, living the fairytale life of riches and glamor. I suppose we all have to stop sticking our heads in the clouds and face reality.
There are many ways to lose your sense of self-esteem despite of how trivial it could get. But whatever happens, we should always try not to lose our sense of self.

1. Know your purpose
Are you wandering through life with little direction – hoping that you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time.

This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight position or even at a dead end. But there’s always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself. All challenges deliver lessons and opportunities for growth. Look for the positive and relate them to your overall purpose in life.
2. Know your values
What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your goals for 2013 – check your goals against your values. If the goals don’t align with any of your top five values – you are going to need to reconsider your goal.

When your goals are in alignment with your belief and value your actions towards your goals become more fluid, almost intuitive. You are the only one who can control this aspect of your life. Only you know ‘feels’ right to in your life. You are master of your creation, so create the environment where your thoughts can grow into reality.
3. Know YOUR needs
Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are so many people who lived their lives without realizing their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top four needs and get them met.

When you live to survive, it is impossible to thrive. Only when you are attending to your needs can you serve others effectively and maximize your potential. Identifying your needs may be a challenge. Maybe you haven’t investigated your decision making from this perspective. Get used to it. You must be a bit selfish, before you can become selfless.
4. Know your passions
You know who you are and what you truly enjoy in life. Obstacles like doubt and lack of enthusiasm will only hinder your self-improvement, but will not derail your chance to become the person you ought to be if you know what you want. Think about what you loved as a child. Reach back to the memories that put you in that ‘happy place’. What were you doing? Who were you with? Where were you?

Happy times of childhood can help you connect with the passions that still fuel you today. Living with passion is a way to accessorize your life and move beyond surviving and truly thriving. At the end of your life, you want to know you lived with passion so you know you impacted the work in a way that was meaningful to you.
5. Live from the inside out
What you feed your mind with becomes your thoughts. What you think about impacts your actions. Your actions help create your reality. Re-read these sentences. They are powerful. What goes in your mind must come out, some how some way.This natural chain of events are the reason for your current reality. In order to increase the fulfillment of your reality you must feed your mind and your spirit daily.

Steps to Self Improvement: Grow from the inside out
Each day learn something new. Read an inspiring book, talk to a mentor, watch a motivational movie, listen to wise speaker. Commune with the information you take in and allow it to become part of your thoughts by considering how the new information fits into your life (or how your life differs from the information you have gathered).
6. Honor your strengths
Learn about your strengths. Acknowledge them. Think about how they impact your life and the lives of others. Honor yourself enough to give yourself credit where credit is due. This is not bragging or boasting. It is being accountable. When you are gifted with a strength or a talent, you have an obligation to nurture it and develop it for the benefit the self improvement of others.

Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. Consider how you can incorporate your passions and your strengths. When your beliefs and values, and strengths and passion come together, you are laying the foundation to build a reality that will allow you to fulfill your dreams, and this, is the ultimate objective of the the 7 steps to self improvement. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know to others.
7. Serve others
This is the last of the 7 Steps to improvement: service. Perhaps you don’t see yourself as a the service type. I would like to argue that point. No matter where you are, who you are with, or what is captivating your attention at any given point in time. As you work through steps 1-6 you will recognize facets of yourself that will When you live authentically, you may find that you develop an interconnected sense of being.

When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others -your spirit – your essence. I know this sounds corny, but it’s true. Great leaders are service oriented. After all, no one reaches greatness by themselves. Teams and communities are made up of individuals who contribute to the good of the whole while nurturing their own unique talents and gifts.
