Being Focused or Being Broke?
Being focused or being broke is a question you can ask and be able to predict the answer of the person you are asking the question to.
There is a lot of people unfortunately that thinks that they are being focused but…
What is really being focused?
Well! Being focused means much more that having hopes and doing only one thing or concentrating on a specific one.
The Main Characteristic to Determine if You Are Really Being Focused?
Being focused is being organized in such a way that the vast majority of your actions are getting you nearer to your goal.
Being broke is a state that does not need to be defined. I think that everyone experienced it at least once in their lifetime and totally understand what it is and what it creates…
Being focused however is far from being entirely understood.
One who is really being focused has the items below written down somewhere and very explicitely defined:
- Goal
- Ideal scene
- Plan
- Objectives
- Targets
- Policies
Once having that, one can start DOING THE ACTIONS that will fulfill each of the above.
For the example below, lets attribute the definition of “being broke” to “not obtaining or achieving”.
One man (Edward) asks 2 of his co-workers what is their ideal scene and goals for the future.
The first one (Joe) answers: “to go around the world with my own sailing boat.”
The second one (Henry) answers: “Me too!”
Interesting! replies Edward. He then asks: “What kind of sailing boat?”
Joe names the brand, the size, the equipment he will need, the tools he will have on board and how he is going to manage for the food with the size of the fridge he can have on such a boat etc. etc.
Henry: “Well! I am not leaving tomorrow so I still have time to think about it.”
Edward: “OK! Now when are you guys planning to leave? Do you know how to sail? How much a boat like you want cost?”
Joe: “I am going to leave on the 15 November 2016. By then I will be totally done with all my sailing lessons and have all the licenses in need for my trip. The boat I need and want is $……. and with my wife’s retirement funds plus mine and the money we put aside weekly we will have more than enough to have a nice trip which is planned to last 3 years if we do not stop anywhere we really like to work for a little while”.
Edward: “Man! I feel as you are already gone… – What about you Henry?”
Henry: “Well! I don’t have time to answer all of these insignificant details now – I just told you what you wanted to know about my future and I think that you are getting a little bit too personal here!”
Now who do you think is really being focused and who do you think is going to be on the seas of the world in November 2016?
Being Focused Comprises Being Organized to Produce Assiduously the Adequate Actions Leading to a Targeted End Phenomena
You know that Henry will never go around the world on a sailing boat. He might be watching movies about it on TV at best. You also can tell that Joe will. He is not going to talk about his dream for the rest of his life and die not having realized it.
HE IS REALLY BEING FOCUSED and determined.
Determination and motivation come much easier when you know exactly why you have to be doing certain specific actions, and what for.
One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.
– Tony Robbins
You know what?
Joe IS NOT going to be happy sometime in the future. Sometime one day when he leaves and be on his boat. He is happy every day of his life as he is focusing and working on achieving his goal. A goal that he knows he can achieve. He planned it out and is doing all the necessary actions for it to become a reality. As each day is going by, he feels he is getting closer. It is almost as he is already on the sea with his sweetheart. He feels the nice soft breeze, the warmth of the sun on his skin, the sound of the sea hitting the sailboat. He sees the dolphins jumping out of the water and following him toward his next destination.
He is ALIVE!
He is also a passionate.
Talking with Joe, you might catch yourself having the desire to become a sailor and go around the world. The way he describes this experience he is going to live and for which he meticulously planned every detail,s sounds so tremendously interesting.
When an old friend knocks at his door without calling to say he was going to stop by, Joe is more likely to answer: “Hey! Good to see you! – I would really like to sit and have a talk with you, why don’t you come over Saturday afternoon so we can do so? I am taking different sailing lessons 3 nights a week, I have to go grocery shopping on Fridays and I give music lessons on Mondays so I can get the money I need for my project.
“what project?” the friend asks
Joe:” Come back Saturday afternoon at 2:15 and I will about 1.5 hours to explain and find out about you. We haven’t seen each other for ten years and I would like to know what you have been doing. However, I was just on my way out to go meet with Joan, my piano lessons’ student.”
Would he lose a minute to excuse himself to his friend?
NO!
Why would he need to do such a thing?
Because he knows what he wants and organized his life to get it?
This is what being focused is all about.
When every cell of your body and every thought in your mind pushes hard to move you forward toward the achievement of your goal. A goal you know you can achieve and planned every detail as how you are going to get there.
Does Joe have any time for self-abasement, pity parties and/or doubts?
No! He is happily busy at producing; achieving…
Do you think that Joe spends a lot of time in front of the TV being hypnotized by the “news” or programs where people covertly hurt each other?
Do you think that Joe spends hours on Facebook communicating about nothing?
Joe firmly believes that he has the right to see the world, to enjoy the different climate, to eat exotic fruits he will himself take from the tree, to hold his wife in his arms and be proud of what they achieved as a team.
He is here to live his life; not to endure it.
I sincerely wish that you meet someone like Joe one lucky day. Just being near a being like that makes you vibrate at a completely new and very different level.
Personally, I am fortunate enough to have met people like that. People living their lives and happily enjoying every day of it as they are busy achieving their goals.
The minimum I can do for you to share this excitement and livingness is to invite you.
