Network Marketing Success – Your Rolodex Is Not The Key

As you start your network marketing home based business, your sponsor may tell you to go through your rolodex and make a list of family and friends (and don’t stop until you have at least 100 people to contact and BUG about joining your business.)

Invite your Family and Friends to Shop With You

You know, it’s fine letting them know what you’re up to and any time they need your products or services, you’ll appreciate their business. In fact, what you’re up to would be a “normal announcement” of your business to your family and friends.

Anytime you have products and services of value to offer, you want to turn your “open for business” sign around and if your family and friends can use them, let them know you’d appreciate them shopping at your store and their referrals.

But…

It’s entirely different to ask them to join your business.

Let me ask you this…. if you opened a shoe store, would you invite them to own a shoe store also?  No.  But, you would have no problem telling everyone, “Hey, if you need shoes, shop at my store!”

Would there be an exception?

YES!

If you hear them talking about needing to find a way to make ends meet, or they hate their job or are thinking of finding something else, that’s an open door to start a conversation.

It is ridiculous to think that bugging your friends and family could be a solid foundation for ANY business.

Why?

Reason #1: They are Unqualified & Not Targeted Business Partner Prospects

Most of your Warm Market is NOT interested in starting a home business online and NONE of them came to you… you were the hunter… and it can’t feel very good chasing them down.

Not to mention, you won’t be very well received (been there, done that).

The best way to attract your family and friends is by just going out and running your business.  Just do your thing.

Work hard, work smart, get your education, get to events, implement your marketing, build your list and start making money with your business.

Your Family and Friends WILL Ask

When you’ve achieved some level of success and you drive up in your new car, or you buy your new house, you start taking more vacations, you upgrade your dining experiences or give to charities in a way that makes heads turn, they will ask you about what you’re doing for income.

Now you have an open door to share with them and invite them to partner with you.   And they will appreciate what you’ve done and may be open to following in your footsteps.  They will listen and respect what you say.

Reason #2 : Quantity of Leads

I don’t care how many people you know, you will never be able to run enough numbers with your warm market. You will run through your warm market and then what?

It’s no different with your brick and mortar store.  You have to find new customers for your business because you can’t rely on the purchases and referrals of your family and friend to make it a success.
