Trip of a lifetime to Mars.

It’s been seen a load of times but I think this simulation of the trip to Mars is amazing. Just making this short clip must have taken some special guys and making the trip in real life something else.

Early spacetravel didn’t include going to Mars.

When you go back in time to the early sixties when it was put forward that man was going to get to the Moon a lot of people scoffed at the idea. Getting a person up and out of our gravitational pull was a major event and you probably have more computing power in your phone than they had in those days!! If you can remember that far back or were around then you will recall being amazed when the first satellite was launched then the Russian dog followed by the first manned flight by Yuri Gagarin.

One giant step….

Since those early days we’ve had more and more satellites launched and placed around the planet to give us all global connections and all the rest. Makes you wander about all the junk that’s also floating around there. Some of it does re-enter the atmosphere but mainly burns up on it’s return. Then of course we had the manned landing on the moon which marked a major stepping stone in man’s reach for the sky. It was one thing to get the men to the moon it was another to have the technology to get them back again.

Now we have had the Space station and the Hubble telescope that’s circling the Earth and keeping a watchful eye out into the rest of the Universe. Perhaps it could give us an early warning of any expected meteorites etc., that may possibly enter our atmosphere with the potential of causing damage. We can also get a much better view of other planets and stars further into the Universe via the Hubble that we could never have imagined not so many years ago.

Mars…a stepping stone.

So now after travelling for a very long time we have, after a  number of failed attempts got a rover on Mars and it’s beaming back all sorts of vital information about the likelihood of life on that planet. by what I’ve heard there is evidence of water which could lead us to the probability of life and possibly as we know it!! Who knows what other interesting minerals the rover will come across whilst it’s there. It’s a magnificent success story for man’s endeavour to reach as far as possible especially under the current financial restrictions. May it long continue as I believe we are not alone here in this part of the universe and many have stated that it’s a mathematical certainty that other life similar to ours exists nearby. When I say nearby I mean a few million light years away. But hey, once you get out of our gravity field how much does it take to speed along at the pace of light if not even faster. There’s more to come in the next few years.
