Does Speed kill your pocketbook?….

 Are the authorities really attempting to keep speed down or are they just lining their pockets?

I just came across this video that is going viral today which gives you a view, especially in North America, about the pros and cons of the speed issue. I’ve included all the reporters info if you wish to connect with him.

Sometimes, yes, but when the speed limits are set artificially low, and enforcement is targeted to those areas where the limit is far below traffic speed, then all the speed kills campaign does is keep drivers complacent about paying fines that don’t improve safety.

In this video, I investigate the culture and science surrounding speed enforcement in BC, coupled with my trademark Simpsons, Supertroopers, and Family Guy references.

I’m not totally convinced that speed alone kills people.

Over here in the UK we have speed limits and numerous but obvious speed cameras as well as the usual mobile speed camera units that lie in wait for the unsuspecting driver. As I’m aware some countries hide all their speed cameras instead of making them visible; well it increases their profitability doesn’t it:-)

It’s not that many years ago when I could drive up one of our first motorways at whatever speed I fancied. No more. We have to adhere to the limit of 70mph. Now I know we have a vast increase in the number of vehicles on our roads and it’s not a very big place the UK, but surely with the current construction of vehicles and road surfaces, which are way better than when I started driving, these limits should be looked at again.

Now I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be limits to speed in built-up areas and outside schools during and just after they have either opened or closed but driving past a school at 20mph is a bit much.

It’s not the speed, it’s the drivers!!!

I think it was in 1965 it took and passed my driving test. Since that time I have never been asked to take any sort of refresher or taken any form of test to see if I have developed any bad driving habits which most of us do despite our personal belief that we are the world’s best drivers:-) Wouldn’t it make sense that we were all retested every ten or fifteen years to ensure our performance behind the wheel was still up to an acceptable standard. Answers in the comment box below please..
