Anybody Can Do Well Through Email Marketing

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

It’s imperative that you only contact people who are interested when using email marketing. Avoid losing customers by creating a campaign that is interesting, innovative, and effective. The piece that follows includes great tips for making sure you are targeting only the most receptive audience.

Have goals with your audience. When you have a substantial number of readers, brainstorm ways to have them sign up friends. Be sure to consistently include a link to subscribe in any email you send; hopefully, recipients will forward it to their friends that may be interested in the things that you offer. You can use this method to make your list grow organically.

Ensure that you’re utilizing a strategy that is very persistent. Staying persistent with the proper type of customers is the key to success. This is because certain people may find that persistence annoying and will not want to work with you.

Create one clear message per email. You don’t want bored customers or ones who are overwhelmed by too much content from your newsletter. Determine the one message that you need to get across in the email and focus on that idea. Your readers will like your brief and to the point newsletter, which isn’t burdened by tons of unwanted information.

Use active and passive forms of feedback to improve your email-based campaigns. Active feedback will give you very direct answers to public opinion of your brand. You ask for suggestions or comments, and you will receive them. To get passive feedback, you need something that is subtle. There are dozens of resources available to see which of your links are getting clicks.

Always proofread every email before sending it out. That should be a no-brainer, but it is an easy thing to forget. Really, it’s only an email, right? The answer is no. Emails are an essential part of the marketing campaign and have to be handled with the same care and attention as all other aspects of your business.

The more personalized the emails you send your customers are, the more likely they will be to buy from you again. Notify subscribers about relevant offers, discounts and sales. Use their previous purchase history to inform them of new products that they may find of interest. Once a customer has bought something from you, they are more likely to do so again in the future.

Make a schedule for distribution of newsletters and keep with it. Keep the day you send out your newsletter the same every week. If possible, send them at the exact time of the day as well. People who subscribe to your mailing list will expect to receive messages as often as you said you’d send them, and will be looking for your messages at the usual time.

Make subject lines of emails exciting and interesting. Your customers are more likely to read the email if the subject header interests them. Emails that have suspicious, strange, or uncreative subject lines will likely be deleted before they are read.

In general, do not send important marketing email on or around major holidays. People are often not at work and are busy with families, not checking their emails. Keep in mind that there could be exceptions to this. This may include emails regarding things like Black Friday and other sales or specials that go on.

Show customers you value them by only sending useful information. Don’t get on their bad side by emailing them blatant advertisements all the time. Offer your reader information they need, such as answers to questions, or information about upcoming promotions.

It is important to make your emails as personal as possible. An email that looks like a simple form letter will just be deleted. Adding in their first name is very easy, but take it step further. You should be able to tell when, why and where they signed up. Utilize this vital information in your marketing messages.

Give your customers some type of incentive in your emails. They are far more likely to conduct business with you when you offer them a very appealing reason to do so. For example, clicking on a link and making a purchase could award them free shopping.

Your campaign for email marketing must be attention grabbing. This step involves doing some experimental work. If something is not working for you, try a different approach. Even if something works great, there are still other things you can learn that may work even better so be on the lookout at all times.

Do not add email addresses to your mailing list without the explicit permission of the individual who owns it. Padding your list with subscribers who have not directly opted into receiving your email marketing can build ill will towards you by both the email owner and your potential clients. You may also discover that your ISP could block your from sending emails, because you are violating span rules.

Test email formats. Always put the most important information and new offers on the top of your emails. Experiment with a variety of formats, though, to determine which formats provide the best responses. After you’ve found a format that works, implement it in all your emails. Your customers will know what’s expected from both ends, as well as where to look when seeking out more information.

Make a sales list which is highly targeted. This is done by getting your best customers, along with their contacts and friends, to receive your mailing list. If you give the impression that the mailing list is exclusive and only for a select few who are interested, your mailing list will be more targeted and your mailings will seem to carry more weight.

As you have seen, it is crucial that you only email those who have given permission for you to contact them. Sending unsolicited email will get you blacklisted and ruin your website’s reputation. Use the advice you have read in this article to ensure that the right people are receiving emails from you
