Family Time
The various activities you engage in during family time provide your children with opportunities to learn new behaviors and skills. For example, teach younger children the alphabet by making a game out of it. If your elementary age child is learning about pollination, go for a walk and point out the many types of flowers you find.
Take your family time back to a time when television was innocent and show your kids what you enjoyed watching when you were a kid with TV Land’s nostalgic lineup of yesteryear’s favorites. Even comes complete with fun “retromercials!”
Dish network channels ensure that you do not miss out on family time dinners anymore. Those sublime moments of the family being together at a mealtime will be back in the reckoning, thanks to satellite TV channels. Children love being part of cooking, they love to bake cookies and help with salads during meal times. Engage with them and make them realize the value of family. Lole they say that dinner is a vital part of having togetherness this should be a part of each family hobby as well.
When planning this event, get some input on family time first. As mentioned before in other articles posted here, see what times during the year will work best for their schedules. Give them some notice before the event, and don’t wait too long to send out invitations. In today’s competitive environment, adequately maintaining your family time may at time become a rather demanding task. Other than your office or business routines, you are bound to have several engaging activities which you compulsively need to attend to, on a regular basis. This results in scarcity of time left over to spend with your family; particularly children. Spending most of your time pursuing a challenging career and yet sparing sufficient time for your family may be one of the most difficult tasks you will face.
I recall growing up in the 70’s having basic television and watching Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, The Facts of Life, and the Love Boat. All these shows all started @ 8pm. My family and I had our dinner at 6pm. We had family time family discussions and after dinner, my brothers and I would play board games such as monopoly, checkers, or battleship. I remember my older brother creating a board game for us. My brothers and I also invented toys and created our own stories. We would go outside and play with our friends to enjoy nature and explore our surroundings. Now today the children think texting is the best thing to do to pass time instead of talking. It is amazing how most kids are not creative. I see parents by video games, I-pads, I-pods, computers, and cell phones for their kids who are as young as 3 years old. Some people may think this will make them computer savvy but will it make them creative and sociable?
I realize that this still might be a scary prospect for many. The average person watches four hours a day and the average family has the TV on for over seven hours a day. It can be a significant change. However, think what you are giving up with your family when you spend this much time in front of the TV. Think about what your family’s life might be like without TV to get a better picture of what you and your family are missing.
