SYSTEM Testing Your Business (S.Y.S.T.E.M.)

Whether we like it or not, one of the main things that we have to grab hold to is our business runs on systems and processes.

Prior to leaving my full time job to do my Speaking & Writing full time, I worked at a Personal Injury Law Firm.  I was the New Cases Manager so I was accountable for getting all the information needed, doing the research necessary and having the conversations that would determine if the case was viable.

There were a lot of steps and a great deal of systems used, but I didn’t even realize how many systems, I used on a daily basis until one day the boss decided that she wanted a process manual for every position because the time and money wasn’t adding up.  What did that mean to me?  I literally had to document every step and every system I used.

This was a form of system testing in my eyes and though the process was excruciating at times, I quickly realized where my position was both effectively and ineffectively using time, energy and money.  So what does this have to do with you and your business?  Everything!

Now when I talk about System Testing, I am slightly talking about taking a system or systems that you use for your business and testing if it is really a S.Y.S.T.E.M.

Let me break it down for you . . .

 S – Save

Y – Your

S – Self

T – Time

E – Energy

M – Money

I got this breakdown from my mentor James Malinchak.  Makes sense right?  A system ideally is something that saves you and your business time, energy and money.

How System Testing Creates S.Y.S.T.E.M. Business

When working on your business, during system testing do you really time everything that you do?  Do you look at the level of energy that you are exporting on each item?  Are you saving money using this system?  Now if you have a background in project management there are probably tactics and techniques to use this.  However, the average Entrepreneur is not going to have working knowledge of this. Not bad and not wrong, just what’s so.

So my question to you is this.  What if you used the S.Y.S.T.E.M. for system testing your business?  It seems simple enough to actually implement.  One thing that I have learned from experience, is when things take a lot of time energy, effort and yes money, I will drop the ball on it.  So what I mean by that is if something takes a lot of steps and takes a lot of time to do, I am more apt to NOT do it, hence, no matter how fabulous it is it won’t get done. So in your system testing, if it is complex, takes a lot of energy or takes a lot of money, you will dread it or you will not do it.

To make things simple, consider the standard S.Y.S.T.E.M. to determine what is and what is not working in your business.  I am not saying to drop everything that you currently have with system testing now, just consider that in every business we are always looking for a way to S.Y.S.T.E.M., Save Your Self Time Energy & Money.
