So, what exactly is a blog? A blog, or weblog, is a website that contains a number of posts, or entries, which appears with the most recent post first; in a form similar to a journal. Blogs usually include other features like links and comments to promote more user activity. They are created by using types of publishing software.
The World before Blogs: The Birth of Blogs
Content has become a huge portion of the online world. In today’s technology age, users want to visit websites which allow two-way conversations; thus, blogs were born.
The first blogs began during the late 1990′s in the form of online diaries. They served as a great place for individuals to post daily entries about their opinions and lives. The posts were arranged in an order where the dates were reversed; in other words, you viewed the most recent entry first and were able to scroll down for older entries. This format acted as an ongoing monologue of the writer’s inner thoughts.
Over the years, blogs have evolved, and more interactive features have been added to help enhanced the two-way conversation. Readers began taking advantage of being able to comment on posts, or link posts to other websites and blogs to keep the conversation going.
What are Blogs like today, and where are they going in the future?
As the Internet continues to grow more social, blogs have gained quite a large following. In fact, there are currently over 100 million blogs in existence, with new ones being created each day. They have grown to be much more than just online journals. Blogging has become a huge part of both offline and online worlds, as bloggers have an impact on business, society and politics with their words.
There is no doubt blogging will continue to gain even more power in the future, as increased numbers of businesses and individuals will begin to recognize the power and influence bloggers have.
You will find many tools online are readily available to help you. Thus, the question you ask yourself will quickly shift from “Why should I begin a blog?”, to “Why shouldn’t I?”.
