Your Environment For Success
Your environment for success determines your personal level of success.That is the message that I received from Monday’s Empower Hour.I have always had an “employee” mindset.I am still recovering from that mindset.I am learning to take responsibility for my actions.I am starting to understand that my financial situation is ultimately the result of the decisions that I have made in the past.
I have always been a good employee.And up until the last several years,I have lived what I now consider to be a very privileged life.I have always taken for granted that my income would remain at the same level until I retired.This has all changed in the last three years.Even though I am still living quite well by most American standards,I am discovering that my standards have been quite different from the average American.I have always thought that everyone else lived by the same standards.
Laid Off
When I started getting laid off from my job once or twice a year,I just figured it was due to the market fluctuation in my field of work.It never occurred to me that it might have been my decisions that were bringing the lack of prosperity.I am beginning to realize that I am truly in the place I’m in due to “my best thinking”,as I’ve heard Tony Rush say several times.That saying is starting to resonate with me.
Blaming My Employer
Instead of blaming my employer for not keeping me employed,I am going to embrace the fact that I made a decision somewhere along the way that ultimately affected my employers decision to lay me off.In a way,I kind of like the fact that it was my decision.Why?That’s a valid question.I’ll tell you why.Because if I now realize that it is my decision whether I succeed or not,and not my employers’ decision,then guess what?I AM going to be successful,and I don’t need the support of anyone else that is not like minded.I have never really met an employer that wants any of their employees to be truly successful.Why?I believe it’s because they wouldn’t have a workforce to leverage their time if everyone was successful.
Take Responsibility
So,it is for me to take responsibility for my decisions,and actions from now on.As Tony Rush said on the Empower Hour,I need to OWN it.Once I own it,then I can change it.I choose to change my mindset from “employee”,to an “entrepeneur” mindset.I realize that an employee mindset is a very limiting mindset for success.The reason is that the employee is comfortable with a “reasonable” income expectation.I am no longer comfortable with what the average considers a reasonable income.I am going to expect an unreasonable income from myself.
The entrepeneur holds themselves accountable for their actions.I have always expected my employer to hold me accountable for my actions at work.I am realizing that my employer most likely never had my best interest in mind.They had their best interest in mind,and if I did well as a result,then that was okay.That is no longer acceptable to me.I am going to create my own reality.It is up to you to create your environment for success.
