My husband is a mad golfer and belongs to the vets group at his local golf club, Parkwood International.
The Vets are players all over 50. They are super organised, having 2 competitions a week at Parkwood plus regular organised group visits to other Gold Coast golf clubs.
Yesterday, the Vets went to Tamborine Mountain Golf Club in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Tamborine Mountain Golf Club is half a kilometre above sea level and has spectacular views to the coast.

It is always about 5 degrees cooler up there, especially because of the abundance of trees everywhere.
At Tamborine Mountain golf club:
There are 9 greens and 18 tees with undulating fairways and immaculately maintained bent grass greens. At 5,500 meters, the par 70 course is not long but is certainly challenging. If the coastal courses are flood bound then play Tamborine Mountain Golf Club where the deep soil drains very quickly. Make the trip to Mt Tamborine for a round and non players can explore the shops on Gallery Walk or the markets that run every 2nd and last Sunday of the month.
After walking nine holes in the delicious cool breezes with lovely bird calls all around, I spent the next 2 hours in the cosy clubhouse.
On the wall was a faded photograph. The chef couldn’t tell me when the photo was taken, but I guessed it was either the 1970s or 1980s because of the long socks worn by both the men and women golfers.

The course design is still the same, but the full grown trees have turned it into a veritable forest walk.

Probably the most amazing detail about the club is the fact that there is only one employed green keeper at the club. All the maintenance of the course is voluntarily provided by the members, mostly the Vets – over 55s.
Veterans at Mount Tamborine Mountain Golf Club have a competitive, enjoyable and social atmosphere. We play a full competition every Wednesday with a shotgun start at 7.30am – 8.00am in the winter months. At all events male and female visitors with AGU handicap are welcome.We accommodate all levels of golfers in A, B and C grade who are over 55 years of age. The Vets are also the source for most of the volunteer labour who make this beautiful and challenging course a must place to play golf.
The view from the club verandah is usually more spectacular than my photo would indicate. It was very hazy yesterday. Plus I was very wobbly with my panning LOL.
