Macklemore: Same Love Song from the New Album “The Heist”

Macklemore’s new Same Love song is my most played song the past couple of weeks.
The song is produced by Ryan Lewis, and features Mary Lambert, and is off of the new album – The Heist.
What inspired Macklemore to sing this song?
Macklemore, artist from Seattle, really comes through as a support to same-sex marriage. He says in the song “I might not be the same, but that’s not important. No freedom ’til we’re equal. Damn right I support it.” His response to the issues that our society faces today are passionate, soulful, and brave. He speaks about straight people needing to have a voice on the issue, and be silent no longer. Support needs to come from everywhere, and this song is an amazing example.

I am incredibly inspired by this song, and I have high hopes for our future as a nation regarding same-sex marriage. Nobody says it better than Macklemore, “It’s the same hate that’s caused wars from religion. Gender to skin color, complexion of your pigment. Te same fight that lead people to walk-outs and sit-ins. Human rights for everybody, there is NO DIFFERENCE. Live on…and be yourself!”.

It think it’s important to recognize these quotes from the song. Some of the responses I have read are in upset because he is so obviously bashing Christians. Not true. This is a story. And he only is telling of experiences he had growing up Catholic at his church. It’s a reality. The hate that SOME Catholics portray on homosexuals. Looking at the quotes above, Macklemore very clearly states that when you boil it down, whatever religion you are, or whatever you believe in, genuine love is genuine love. And it should not be discriminated.
That’s my piece. I’m a supporter. Of Macklemore, and of same-sex marriage.
