LinkedIn is a popular social networking website which is designed for people in professional occupations. Launched in the year 2003, LinkedIn has more than 175 million registered users in more than 200 nations.

LinkedIn is available in various languages like English, Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Romanian, Czech, Dutch, Russian, Swedish, Malay, Polish, Turkish, Indonesian and Korean.

LinkedIn offers many useful features to its users. Its feature “Connections” enables users to create and manage a list of contact details of people with whom they have some level of relationship.

LinkedIn allows its users to invite anyone to become a connection. But here you need to send invitations only if you are sure that they will be accepted. If your invitee selects “Spam” or “I don’t know” options, it counts against you. If your invitations get too many negative responses, your account may be restricted, or even closed.

LinkedIn enables you to use your connections in many ways. It is a great way to build your network. Your connections can introduce you to their connections. LinkedIn allows you to upload your own resume. You may also create your own profile in the site.

LinkedIn is a great tool to search for business opportunities, job opportunities and professionals. Employers can use this social media website to search for suitable candidates.

If you are a jobseeker, you may review the profile of your hiring manager and see if any of your existing contacts can help you to connect with the person. LinkedIn enables users to post their own photographs and view the photographs of other users.

LinkedIn has made it possible for its users to follow different companies and to get notification about the job offers available. You may bookmark jobs you would like to apply for.

LinkedIn’s gated-access approach is successful in building trust among its users. With LinkedIn, a contact with any professional requires either an existing relationship or the intervention of a contact of the person.

The social media network’s LinkedIn Answers feature is more or less like Yahoo! Answers. This free feature allows you to ask questions related to businesses and professions.

The advantage of LinkedIn Answers over Yahoo! Answers is that here you will know the identity of the person who would be answering your question. The person who would be answering the question will also know the identity of the questioner. LinkedIn Polls helps you immensely in market research. You can also advertise on this social media website.

LinkedIn’s application platform allows other online services to be embedded within your profile page. Various LinkedIn apps allow you to connect with other users. For instance you can display your latest blog postings in your profile.

The mobile version of this social networking site is available with reduced features. It is available in lesser number of languages, like, English, German, Chinese, French, Spanish and Japanese.

LinkedIn supports the formation of interest groups. Most of the existing groups are employment related. They cover various tops, most of which are related to career issues.

Members of a group can discuss among themselves, but these discussions are moderated by group owners and managers. Unfortunately there is a constant stream of spam postings.

LinkedIn has become the de facto tool for professional networking. It definitely makes sense to be a part of this social networking website.
