There’s a new and rather different social media site that has been taking the internet users by storm.
What is this new social media site?
Though Pinterest is a new social media, it is very quickly attracting a loyal base of users, who are pinning, sharing and liking anything that they can click their mouse on!
Traffic to Pinterest has increased by 400% in the last few months, giving them over 12 million active users!
It has also made Pinterest one of the top 10 websites within the Social Networking and Forums category for 2011. And it seems that Pinterest subscribers are seriously addicted! They are spending an average of 15.8 minutes on the site that is only second to YouTube, whose users average 16.4 minutes.
Pinterest is also driving more referral traffic than YouTube, Google + and LinkedIn combined!

What Is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a social bookmarking tool and virtual pin board used to pin images and videos, either yours from your website or any images that you would like to share, and categorize them into collections, or boards. You could think of it like an interactive, shareable scrapbook.
As with all good social media network sites you can follow other users, share their content, make comments, and tag them.
And similar to Twitter you can get real time updates of what the people you follow are pinning.
You can also share your pins on FaceBook and Twitter.

Let me tell you how Pinterest works. A pin is an image that is added to Pinterest. Pins are organized on boards, which are collections of pins. Boards can be created for any theme that you are interested in. You are able to have your image or video linking back to your website or even an optin page.
