My Quest For Serrada Escrima

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

My First Taste Of Serrada Escrima

Back in the early eighties one of my training partners would bounce around from seminar serrada escrimato seminar to see what was out there. He came back one week from training at a seminar with Mike Inay and was truly impressed with the art of Serrada Escrima. And shared what he had learned at the Serrada Escrima seminar with me. Wow, it was an eye opener to say the least and fit so perfectly with the Wing Chun that we were training in. From then on I did everything I could do to get my hands on information about Grandmaster Angel Cabales’ Serrada Escrima. I believe the first printed material I found was The Filipino Martial Arts by Dan Inosanto, where Grandmaster Angel Cabales’ Serrada Escrima is discussed and this fueled my quest even more. Due to the in tight close range aspects of Serrada Escrima this fit right in with my personal training in the fighting arts. From this point I dove right on in and began to soak up as much as I could on Serrada Escrima.

The East Coast Was No Mecca For Serrada Escrima

It was hard to find extensive knowledge on Serrada Escrima on the East Coast since Grandmaster Angel Cabales taught his art of Serrada Escrima in Stockton, California. And that was and is the Mecca for Serrada Escrima. So what was a poor kid like myself to do well I did the seminar circuit to find mire knowledge and while at a Muay Thai seminar I ran into Master Mark Wiley I had not seen him in a few years, he had been bouncing around which in end effect was great for me. We were talking and he said I have been training in Grandmaster Angel Cabales, Serrada Escrima and teaching it. It was on finally a Serrada Escrima player on the East Coast. This was what I had been looking for, for a good while now and was lucky enough to be able to train with Master Wiley all the time I was lucky he lived very close and his home was also in the middle of my work territory so I was always stopping by to train at His home and as well as in the studio. At last Serrada Escrima  on the East Coast for me.

Bringing In The Serrada Escrima Masters

This was great now no more having to travel all over the place to find Serrada Escrima. serrada escrima 2Master Wiley would bring in Serrada Escrima Masters. Heck yeah I was in Serrada Escrima heaven. He brought in Master Darren Tibon from Stockton which was an awesome experience as well as Alan McLuckey so things were starting to happen on the East Coast with Serrada Escrima. It is such an exciting Filipino Matrial Art and when one is able to witness Serrada Escrima first hand from a true Serrada Escrima master it truly is an explosive and in tight fighting system. So check on it for yourselves and seek out a Serrada Escrima Master and train.
