TIP! Put money into a quality wheelbarrow and kneeling stool if you plan to do garden work often. Gardening can be very tough on the knees as you spend much time leaning near the ground, so a portable stool can make all the difference to your comfort.

Horticulture is more than decorating. For some people, gardening is more than a hobby. A garden provides the person who has put time into it a way of finding tranquility, peace, and a feeling of appreciation of life. When you excel at gardening, these effects can prove very positive within you life.

TIP! Both cat grass and wheat grass are good for giving your errant feline pause. Another option is to place something smelly, like citrus peels or mothballs, on the soil surrounding the plants that have previously been eaten.

For weeds that aren’t in the middle of your plants, use boiling water to kill their roots. Boiling water is an excellent, organic substance for use against weeds. Make sure to pour only on the weeds and to stay away from healthy vegetation. Boiling water is not good for the weed roots and will stunt further growth.

TIP! When fall has arrived, it is time to plant the edibles for the autumn. Instead of using regular clay pots this year for planting lettuce and kale, try a pumpkin container instead! Scoop the insides out of the pumpkin, and don’t forget to spray the inside with Wilt-Pruf.

If you want your garden to sport flowers in the spring as well as summer, plant bulbs. Bulbs are hardy, easy to grow into flowers, and will blossom for several years. Different bulbs bloom at various times, so choosing appropriately, you may have blooms early spring to later summer.

TIP! Use a calendar to plan out the seasons of your garden. A calendar used for planning can tell you when each plants grows in each season.

An eye-catching plant makes an attractive focal point for your garden or flowerbed. To create an attractive garden design, arrange a focal point to draw attention. Focal points in gardens are normally a plant specimen that no one else in the neighborhood has in their landscape.

There are many effective ways to use mulch in your gardening projects. In addition, it reduces evaporation of moisture from the soil and minimizes weed growth.

TIP! During winter, you should take your favorite plants inside. Perhaps you can save your most expensive or resistant plants.

To keep dogs from disturbing your garden, spray some old aftershave, cologne, perfume or other strongly-scented products in the dirt or grass surrounding it. Your dog will find more interesting scents to explore elsewhere and leave your garden alone.

Baking Soda

TIP! Choose plants that will give you the most yield at harvest time. In most circumstances, a cold-tolerant or disease-resistant hybrid will have a higher yield when compared to a more traditional variety.

When powdery mildew appears on your plants, you should not rush out to purchase a costly chemical treatment. Combine a bit of liquid soap and some baking soda with water. Then, spray this mixture onto all of your infected plants once each week till the mildew is gone. Baking soda will bring no damage to your plants, and will treat the mildew in a gentle and efficient manner.

TIP! Heather can bring helpful critters into your garden. Heather is great for getting bees to stop by at the beginning of spring, as heather plants have nectar available early in the season.

Make a plan for your garden. This will assist you in recognizing your tiny plants when they start to pop up. This is important, because different plants require different care.

TIP! Get more value from your property. One of the best things you can do to increase property value is to have proper landscaping.

Water is vital to a healthy garden. Your plants need it to survive. On hot days, soil can get dry so you need to remember to frequently water your garden. You should properly water your garden to produce the healthiest plants.

TIP! Don’t forget to use a good fertilizer in your garden. Manure can help grow plants, but to eliminate risk of pathogens, try using a type of commercially composted product.

Try to pour a bit of leftover water from your steamed veggies on them. To add acidity to the soil of your rhododendrons and gardenias, use coffee or tea grounds. Chamomile tea can be used as an effective fungicide for potted plants.

TIP! Bees can help your garden because of their pollinating skills. Some bees are destructive, as is the case with carpenter bees that bore into wood to make their nests.

Some houseplants can’t survive without humidity. Put several types of plants into one large pot to generate humidity. You can also put one plant in a large pot. Just pack the pot with stones so that the plant has little room to move and retains water. Misting your houseplants a few times a day is another technique to create humidity for them.

TIP! Re-potting can benefit some plants, but disturbs the roots of others. Determine whether or not you need to re-plant by looking at the number of roots in the bottom of the current container.

Use the above tips to revitalize your garden. You will be overjoyed to know that your plants are healthy! Gardening could become your new hobby and be a real source of happiness for you.
