How to Use Twitter Lists

What are Twitter Lists?

Twitter ListsIf you’re using Twitter and not taking advantage of twitter lists, you are wasting some of your time. With organized Twitter lists, you can more effectively follow and engage the most important people in your marketing niche. Twitter lists help you organize the most important people on Twitter into lists which you can manage and engage with seperately. The Twitter list feature allows you to organize, group and track streams of tweets from others, even if you are not following them, into groups defined by you.

Twitter lists are the way for you to manage your social media marketing. Remember, don’t just take the time to create Twitter lists; find other lists in your niche, follow them and start conversations with them. One thing I do is look at the Twitter lists the leaders in my community are following and then follow some of their lists.

Simply customize lists for whatever purpose you desire. You may want to create a Twitter list of people that you regularly retweet. Some other Twitter list ideas are, Industry Peers, Industry news (Problogger, CNN etc.), Clients or potential clients, or Social Media Leaders.

Get on Targeted Twitter Lists

Being on targeted Twitter lists can do a lot for you. Here’s how:

1) Being on a targeted Twitter list will improve your visibility and credibility in your niche.

2) If you are on a list targeted to what your business niche is, you will be found when people are looking for others to follow in that niche.

3) Targeted lists will increase your influence in the area of your expertise.

4) The more Twitter lists you are on, the more chances you will be followed by more people.

How to use Twitter Lists to Save Time and be More Effective

1) Twitter lists help you stay in touch in a more focused way. Twitter lists allow you to avoid the busy clutter and cut through the “noise” of your newsfeeds. This can then help you save you time as you can then focus your attention to the important people and relevant content.

2) You can group together similar Tweeters – This will allow you to just go through and check your lists to see what is happening and trending in each area, saving you time to catch up or get involved with specific topics or discussions.

3) You only have to follow the list, not everyone on the list – If you find an influencer who has a good list, you can follow that Twitter list without following everyone on the list.

4) Twitter lists are an easy way to discover new people – Check out the lists of people you enjoy following to find new and interesting people to follow. Maybe you will find specific people you want to follow on lists you are following.

5) Follow Influencers and News Organizations in your Niche – The information they are posting can give you an edge. The more you can expose the followers in your niche to the latest news and information, the more you will be seen as an expert in your field.

TIP- Check out the names of the list you are a “member of.” These are the lists that other people have added you to and is a good indication of how well others understand you, your brand and your business.
