Internet Marketing Basics for Newbies

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Are you new or fairly new to online marketing? Even if you’re not that new but still confused as ever about it…I will try to simply and clearly explain some basic concepts over my next few posts.

These articles are taken from my marketing ebook titled “The Internet Marketing Speed Guide Series:” Internet Marketing Basics for Newbies

Marketing has always been an exciting and creative endeavor. There is the challenge of coming up with new and creative ways to catch the attention of of your prospects.

The next trick is to hold their attention long enough to build some kind of dialog. Next comes trying to build a rapport with them. And hopefully all of your efforts will culminate in a sale, or at least a request for more information.

So marketing is basically all about building relationships and then motivating your prospects to become customers by taking that final step to purchase your product or service.

There is usually a lot of time and effort that goes into developing a solid marketing plan.  And then even more resources required to actually get the plan rolling and producing results.

Now don’t let this scare you off. It sounds like a lot more work than it is. I mean, you’re not creating the next GM or Microsoft right now. So I’ll do my best to keep everything simple. I want you to approach this with a clear mind and a willing spirit. You can do it.

Like most  things, marketing follows some basic guidelines. You don’t have to re-invent the wheel since most marketing is based on what has worked successfully in the past.

Unlike some business tasks, marketing is a fluid type of exercise. As technologies change and the tastes of a fickle public shift, there is an ever increasing need to be alert to new and exciting ways to get your message across to people who are looking for just what you have to sell them.

This is called your “target market”. The people most interested in buying your offer.

Over the last couple of decades, the concept of Internet marketing has taken on a new
role in the promoting of goods and services. Originally online marketing was seen as more or less an add on to traditional marketing mix.

In the beginning no one was sure how or even if online marketing was a viable marketing tool.

Now internet marketing is now perceived as a legitimate and potent form of marketing. In fact it has taken on a life all its own. In many ways, Internet marketing has taken the old rules and rewritten them for a new age.

One great thing about Internet marketing is that you do not have to study the concepts of marketing for a number of years or obtain a degree in the subject before you can go out and launch your own marketing campaign.

In fact, it is possible to learn the basics in the comfort of your home.   You’ll be surprised how fast you can pick up and apply simple strategies.

All you need is a computer and internet connection to get started.

That’s it for now. Tomorrow we’ll discuss how to get started with the right mindset.

Hope this helps.

Rick

P.S. Even though I’ve been marketing online for almost 10 years now, I’m still open to learning new concepts to help make my online marketing efforts easier and more effective. You too can shave time with a new fast start method I recently discovered. Learn more here.
