Seven Canadian Universities on “most employable graduates” list and Why You Shouldn’t Care

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Most Employable Graduates

A survey of 2,500 recruiters in 20 countries has found the 150 schools with the “most employable graduates.”

7 of the top schools of most employable graduates were Canadian.  I’m Canadian.  Should I be proud or something?  Not really.  I’ll tell you why in a minute.

But here they are nonetheless for the curious.

Seven Canadian universities with “most employable graduates”

24. University of Toronto (3rd in Maclean’s Medical Doctoral ranking)
29. McGill University (1st in Maclean’s Medical Doctoral ranking)
30. University of Montreal, H.E.C Montreal (12th in Maclean’s Medical Doctoral ranking)
53. McMaster University (6th in Maclean’s Medical Doctoral ranking)
56. Queen’s University (4th in in Maclean’s Medical Doctoral ranking)
85. Western University (11th in Maclean’s Medical Doctoral ranking)
108. University of Waterloo (3rd in Maclean’s Comprehensive ranking)

Why you shouldn’t care about being one of the “most employable graduates”

Because in the U.S. 50% of graduates are unemployed or under-employed.  In Canada, I’m sure it’s not a heck of a lot better.

Under-employed?  What is that you wonder?

most employable graduatesIt means you graduate with a degree or diploma, mountains of debt and you go back and work at the same crappy jobs you had during your summers.  Or it’s the same job you had while you were going through school to help pay your tuition.

It’s a small minority of graduates these days in this recession that being “most employable graduates” means something to.  You see, most people who are looking for work, regardless of if they just gradated or not, are finding a half decent job extremely difficult to find, if not impossible.

What are graduates and others finding for work?

Fast food restaurants, bars, delivering pizza’s, crappy office jobs, door to door sales, working at the mall and many other jobs that people would consider themselves to be ‘under-employed’ at because they too have credentials that should have them working at better jobs than they are.

Times are changing folks.  Faster than ever.  And being “most employable graduates” doesn’t mean crap these days.

most employable graduatesIn fact, it’s just more hype to convince more people to go and get deeper in debt with student loans.  Student loans which could end up being the next “bubble” to burst and send the economy into another tail spin because people aren’t making enough once they graduate to pay the damn things off!

I don’t care about being most employable graduates, because I don’t want a job in the first place.

Do you?

Seriously, do you really want a “job?”

Do you want commute to a job that doesn’t pay you what your worth?  To force you to commute in traffic?  To take home a pay-check that doesn’t truly pay you enough to really give you the life you were probably dreaming about once you graduated?

Speaking of which…what are you worth?

Shouldn’t YOU be deciding?  Shouldn’t YOU be the person determining that?  Shouldn’t YOU have control of what you do, when you do it, for how long and with whom you want to do it with?

50 hours a week at something you don’t love?  Why the heck should you work all week long when there are options to earn income from home with just a few hours per day that will leave you with the rest of your day to do the stuff you REALLY want?!?!

most employable graduatesDid I just wake you up with that last paragraph?  Good.  You probably need to be woken up.  These educational institutions have put enough people to sleep with their boring classes and boring opportunities for work once you leave them.

I didn’t really want a job in the first place.  I didn’t want to be one of the most employable graduates.

Jobs suck.

They get in the way of having a life.

And once you find a way to earn enough income to support your desired lifestyle on complete auto-pilot working only a few hours per day like I have, you will realize that being “most employable” doesn’t mean a thing to you either.

How To Make More Income Than Most Employable Graduates

You see I got fed up.

So I started looking elsewhere.  I turned to Google.

I found people from all walks of life who were just like me who had bigger dreams and ambitions for a life free of the bondage of a working at a JOB.

coffee shop millionaireThese were the “coffee shop millionaires.”  The ones that you see driving the fancy cars but who sit around at Starbucks for hours while looking at their laptops and chatting with their friends.  The ones who have found ways to travel for months at a time while commission checks rolling into their bank accounts daily.  The ones that could care less about whether they are most employable graduates or not.

So what do they ‘DO?’  What do I do?

I make money from my laptop selling products that people want.  Products that people are willing to buy.  Products that people are searching for every day, credit card in hand.

These pay checks come in regardless of what I do on a daily basis.  They come in because I have found a business that I was able to set up on complete auto-pilot that works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year whether I’m in front of my computer or not.

It’s awesome.  It’s liberating.  It’s freeing.  And because it’s been able to give me the life I always wanted, I’m now one of the “most unemployable” people you will ever meet.

And that’s why I don’t care about being one of the most employable graduates.

Then decide that you too want to live life on your terms.  Decide that you too don’t care about being most employable graduates because you’d rather have a life of freedom and happiness.

Decide.  Just decide.

Your solution could be your next decision away.  It was for me.
