Difference Between Hypnosis and Subliminal Messages
Hypnosis and subliminal messages are both methods for speaking directly to the subconscious mind in order to effect positive change. While both approaches are effective, they work in different ways. The mechanics of how hypnosis and subliminal messages affect the subconscious are explained below.
Hypnosis is a relaxed, yet alert state of mind that allows for a more effective filtering process between the conscious and subconscious mind. The conscious mind has a guard, known as the “critical factor”. This develops around the age of six and acts as a gatekeeper that decides what is allowed into the subconscious mind and what is not. A traumatic incident, or series of them, can cause the guard to not make the best choices, which can lead to negative messages taking root in the subconscious. Hypnotherapy is an effective tool to help the guard make better choices. This active approach is a crucial difference between hypnosis and subliminal messages.
Subliminal Messages
This method is a slower, more subtle way to create positive change. Instead of direct suggestion, which is used in hypnosis, messages are passed to the subconscious through the use of video, audio and text. The conscious mind is not able to detect these messages, but the subconscious does and files them away as reality. The person’s thought processes, perceptions and beliefs become more positive and affirming over time. Basically, the main difference between hypnosis and subliminal messages is that of fast and slow.

Which is Better?
Both hypnosis and subliminal messages are effective in helping people achieve change in their lives. Subliminal messages are a flexible approach because they can be listened to anywhere. Hypnosis requires a person to be in a secure location due to the level of relaxation involved. There is no clear therapeutic advantage between hypnosis and subliminal messages.
Why People Use Hypnosis and Subliminal Messages
Both tools allow for change regarding thought processes and belief systems. When people want to make changes within themselves, this is the beginning of a positive reinforcement process that hypnosis and subliminal messages can continue to support. Both methods are effective for weight loss, smoking cessation, getting over phobias and fears, attracting a suitable partner and creating more success in life.
In the end, making a choice between hypnosis and subliminal messages may come down to convenience and how fast the change is desired.
