Words that compliment!

Words that compliment are words often hard for some people to accept.  That is people of a certain gender; that gender being that of female.  Why do words that compliment make some females  cringe?  Why do most females not accept compliments in a gracious manner?  If you say to a person, “I love your dress!”  The responses may be, “Oh this old dress!”, or “This dress makes me look fat!”, or “I got it on the clearance rack!”  What ever happened to a woman being able to accept a compliment without prefacing it with something else.  What ever happened to plain old thank you!

If you say something complimentary to a man, he never responds in a negative manner.  In fact, you have probably brought his confidence level up another 100 points!  He may even preen after your words that compliment!  I may be exaggerating here, but men tend to respond much better to compliments.  They do not try to turn it into something negative.  They take it for its face value and accept it!  Women have a lot to learn from the male gender when it comes to responding to compliments!

So, ladies, think about what you are saying to another person when you respond to a positive comment .  You could actually be insulting that other person, without ever intending to do so!  Try to take a few seconds, a few deep breaths, before your response; otherwise you may say something hurtful to another person.  Try to say the words “Thank you,” without cringing or making any faces!

Hey, here is a great way to turn around your poor response words that compliment!  Wear your worst outfit; an outfit that does not favor your figure.  Then go to a full length mirror and pretend people are giving you compliments about this ugly outfit.  If you can look at yourself without cringing and practice fitting comebacks that are not offensive; you are on you way of overcoming your ability to accept positive statements about you!  You may have to practice this exercise on a daily basis, to overcome your bad habit.

There is nothing more hurtful to another person when you cannot accept words of praise!  It is like saying to another person what you have to say is of no consequence to me.  So the next time you receive a compliment, look that person in the eye, and say those magic words, “Thank you.”  Words that compliment should be received graciously!
