Obstacles can be a positive thing in one’s life! Everyone has to deal with some type of adversity. It could be through an illness, a death, a bullying situation, losing a job, not making the team, or whatever it could mean to an individual. Look at one of the greatest basketball players to ever have played, Michael Jordan. He did not make the sophomore basketball team in high school! Boggles, the mind! Look what he did with his life!
The saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!”, is very true when it comes to adversity. Adversity is life’s challenge that says, “Do something about this, do not accept this situation!” I believe that is why we all have adversity in our life. It is life’s simple way of saying that things need to change.
It is what one does with overcoming obstacles, that make them stand out in life. If you read this poem from this blog, it is saying some people are gifted with things, and yet others have to find a way to gift themselves. Click here to read the poem.
So look at adversity as a gift. It is telling you to unwrap it and make it work for you. I truly believe adversity makes one a better person, and makes one stronger. Learning how to overcome obstacles, makes one more resilient and more flexible. It makes a person to learn other ways on how to deal with a situation. To me, learning is always a good thing.
Overcoming obstacles not only teaches a person to be more resilient; it teaches them to be more empathetic with other people. Since you have an appreciation what it takes to overcome adversity, you can certainly understand when it happens to another person and what they are going through.
When things get tough in life, it is time to get tough and fight back! It is not a time to take pity of yourself, because pity will not help you get through the difficult situation. Sure, take the time to shed a few tears, then go out and make your own lemonade! Remember, obstacles can be a positive thing!
