Have you ever considered using meditation in your life? The reason I bring this up, is I have found meditation a great way to reduce the stress in my life. As a caregiver to a husband with progressive multiple sclerosis, it has helped me tremendously. Exercising and finding time for myself has also been a relief to me. There are so many emotions that can creep up on me, when I think about the unfairness of the disease my fifty year old husband has taken on. My husband looks to be around seventy years old not fifty; he cannot walk; he needs help with eating, washing, and the daily routines of life. He is difficult to deal with at times; which makes me extra cranky!
Crankiness, depression, sadness, and anger are all side effects of the build up of stress. Meditation allows me to settle down and go within myself. It calms me down and allows me to clear my mind. I try to meditate twice a day, once in the morning, and once in the evening. Meditating allows me to make better decisions in my life. It makes me not sweat the small stuff, as most of the things in life are small stuff. So I tend to let some things go in my life, so I can find more time for the important things. One of the things, I have not worked so hard on, is having the cleanest house. I do not dust, vacuum, clean bathrooms, clean floors, twice a week. It is now down to once a week. I need the time to exercise, caregiver, work, take care of my dog, cook, do laundry, and find time for myself.
I try to spread the work load of the house throughout the week, so it does not overwhelm me. If you are feeling the burden of daily life, and you want to be more clear minded, try meditation. Meditating is very simple to incorporate in ones life. Find a special place or room where no one will bother you during this time. Meditating does not have to be elaborate, one can simply spend 15 -30 minutes of deep breathing. Feeling the air go in and out of your lungs, all done in a quiet place. It could be done to music or a meditation tape. It slows things down, gives one a sharper, clearer mind. A mind that can make better decisions. Who could not use better decisions in their lives? Try to make meditation a daily routine in your life, and you will reap many benefits.
