Let freedom ring is one of the versus in the song My country tis of thee. And it goes something like this…land where my fathers died, land where the pilgrims pride, let every mountainside, let freedom ring. I bring this up, because today is the 4th of July. It is a day to celebrate the privileges that we the citizens of the United States of America enjoy on a daily basis.
We are allowed the freedom of speech. We can say what we want, when we want, without being put into jail. I guess there would be one place that what you say would be heavily monitored, and that would be in an airport. You cannot say, “I am going to blow up the plane”, and not expect authorities to be all on you for what you said you are going to do! Overall, Americans can say pretty much talk about whatever they want to say. I can say, “I think the president is doing a lousy job with the economy, the budget, and the deficit,” without the fear of being put into jail.
Another freedom we have is the ability to worship wherever we want to. You do not have to fear being a Christian, a Jew, a Moslem, or whatever religion you choose to be. Woman as a whole enjoy the freedoms here in the United States. We can decide how many children we want to have, so if you wanted to have twelve children, you could have twelve children. We are not limited by number, sex, or whatever constraints some countries may have chosen for their women. Women are able to vote, not wear veils to hide their faces, be in boardrooms, own a company, or whatever they desire. Our country is good to it’s female citizens. Women still do not make as much money as men; but I believe that will take some more time to overcome.
I could go on and on listing the privileges we have being United States citizens; however, I believe July 4th is the day to celebrate the rights we all partake in, and our forefathers fought so hard for. So barbeque, grill some hot dogs, watch a parade, drink a beer, watch the fireworks, and thoroughly enjoy your day off from work! The 4th of July is a great day for all Americans, and every time I watch the fireworks, I hear the words, Let Freedom Ring!
