Girl Scout Cookie Time – Oh Happy Day!
I love Girl Scout Cookie Time. It’s right after the holidays and we’ve already lost interest in losing weight for our New Years resolution. Oh it’s so hard to resist those tasty morsels and it’s just nostalgic. Some of the Girl Scout cookies have been around since I was a Girl Scout many years ago (and I’m not sharing how long that is). I also just can’t help but wanting to contribute to such a great organization.
A little Girl Scout Cookie History
Girl Scout cookies have been around over 80 years and the Girl Scouts actually used to make the cookies themselves.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Girl Scouts in different parts of the country continued to bake their own simple sugar cookies with their mothers. These cookies were packaged in wax paper bags, sealed with a sticker, and sold door to door for 25 to 35 cents per dozen. If you want to actually try them out yourself here is the recipe from the Girl Scout website.
An Early Girl Scout Cookie® Recipe
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar plus additional amount for topping (optional)
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
Cream butter and the cup of sugar; add well-beaten eggs, then milk, vanilla, flour, salt, and baking powder. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Roll dough, cut into trefoil shapes, and sprinkle sugar on top, if desired. Bake in a quick oven (375°) for approximately 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Makes six- to seven-dozen cookies.

Lemon Chalet Cremes™ (retangular cinnamon-ginger lemon-filled cookies) – 14 cookies* per 8 ounce box.
Lemonades™ (shortbread cookie with a tangy lemon icing) – 16 cookies* per 8.5 ounce box.
Samoas® – Caramel deLites™ (vanilla cookies covered with caramel on top and bottom then rolled in coconut and striped with chocolate) – 15 cookies* per 7 ounce box.
Shout Outs!™ (Light and crisp, Belgian-style caramelized cookies) – 40 cookies* per 9 ounce box.
Tagalongs® – Peanut Butter Patties® (Regular cookie with soft Peanut Butter and coated with chocolate) – 15 cookies* per 7 ounce box.
Thanks-A-Lot™ used to be known as Animal Treasures and All Abouts (all same type shortbread cookie with chocolate on the bottom) – 16* per 8.5 ounce boxThank U Berry Munch (A cookie made with premium cranberries and white fudge chips.) – 14 cookies per 6.17 ounce box.
Thin Mints (thin chocolate-peppermint cookie coated in chocolate) – 32 cookies* in an 10 ounce box.
Trefoils – a.k.a. Shortbread – (a shortbread cookie) – 44 cookies* per 10 ounce box.
