One Professional Athlete’s Saturday Off-season Challenge

So it is Saturday. Elton John made a hit song about it. Saturday also just happens to be one of my favorite days of the week.

Why? It tends to be the slowest day of the week for me. My creative juices start flowing!

After a full week of training, being a family man, and obligations to household chores, etc, I do manage a little bit of my day to enjoy some quiet time on this very Saturday to think about life after baseball. I celebrated an amazing 35th birthday on 11.11.11; I woke up thinking about new short term and long term goals for myself rounding off this year and head into next.

Going into another contract negotiation year, I woke up today confident of having a great 2011 baseball season and about my financial snapshot. I pitched extremely well and put myself in a great position for a Major League contract. Yet, I still wanted to challenge myself. Not as a Professional Athlete always does in sports, but to see what I could do as an entrepreneur who could match my current income as a Major League Baseball Player.

Why? Baseball is a borrowed game and with no guarantees in life, Why Not?

Was it possible? I KNOW it is!

Here’s an inside scoop for those who may not know; athletes tend to get paid their full year salary over the course of their season. Sure, you can live like a king for those in-season months, but, IF you don’t budget and save like I do, then you could be in trouble come the off season. Many athletes find themselves in financial predicaments even with the help of financial managers. You may have heard sad stories of athletes going broke. More often than not it’s because they never budgeted for the off-season months. This holds true for many people in all walks of life also, not just professional athletes.

Instead of getting frustrated about paying out expenses during my off-season, and nothing coming in until April 15th (1st paycheck of the 2012 MLB season), I came up with a great idea for my Wild Pitch Marketing Community. I believe I have developed a solution for ANYONE who is looking to market their own business online!

My plan is in place. With the assistance of my team, I will meet the challenge of bringing in some income when not earning my baseball paycheck. What about you? Want to join me?
