Creating Wealth: Part 3: Content But Not Comfortable

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

In my journey to creating wealth, I am discovering some powerful principles that I believe anybody on this journey needs to grasp in order to make money and change their situation.

I am learning about the principle of  being content but not comfortable.

What do I mean by that?

Creating wealth: Contentment vs Comfort

Well, in the midst of financial struggle, not having enough money to live and being in debt, I realised that I was not comfortable  but I wasn’t content either.

One day my wife came back from church and she felt very challenged about our attitude towards where we were at with our finances. I was in a state of frustration, about not being able to buy the things we wanted and not having enough.

Yet everyday, we have three square meals. We have a warm home with hot running water. We have beds and furniture. We have good sanitation.

I have a car that has given me no trouble since I bought it two years ago. I have enough clothes to wear a different set everyday of the week.

I have a wife who loves me and three healthy children.

Yet, I complain about not having enough!

I believe that is good to never get into a state of being comfortable because discomfort helps you to grow. It also gives you the fuel for moving forward.

Yet, being content is very important.

Money and material possessions should never be the solution to your personal contentment. In fact if they are, you will never be content! You will always be seeking more.

But when you are content, no matter what situation you are in, you are in a better place to be creating wealth.

I would even venture to say that without contentment, you are not creating the right environment for creating wealth!

So in conclusion, by all means remain uncomfortable in your situation, so you can grow and pursue change but seek to be content whatever situation you are in.
