MARKETING IDEAS FOR SMALL BUSINESS
Small businesses are going under by the dozen daily in this tough economy, but there are many free or lower cost marketing ideas for small business. Tiny shops
may continue to fail as shops like Walmart and Target continue to fight it out for market domination by offering ridiculously low prices on everything from clothing to electronics to nutrition. When small businesses fall prey to this impossible competition, folk lose their livelihoods and communities lose precious resources.
So, how is a small business to remain afloat in these hard times?
If you’re a bricks and mortar business, you’ve got a battle on your hands, especially if you offer anything the big chains offer. You’ve got to become unique, a pro in what you do, and offer the best buyer service possible , then market that fact.
Those are 3 of the things these gigantic box stores don’t offer : uniqueness, experience and customer service. Personally I usually attempt to buy at small local
businesses, because they are the backbone of a community and they are frequently more knowledgeable and useful than huge stores, where you are lucky if you can get any help at all!
Its remarkable how many small businesses don’t feel the need to have a domain. They probably don’t know that Google essentially loves small business and always will pull a small business to the top of a search page, just by someone putting in the name of a city and whatever they are searching for. This is a great advantage to a business owner. There are always local directories, for example through the local Chamber of Commerce, where you can list your internet site, regularly for a small charge or free.
Many small business owners are also under the impression that beginning and maintaining a website will cost them a lot of money and is troublesome. Offering cheap website construction and maintenance for small local businesses has become a home-run industry in itself.
Little local businesses should always have a site offering a brief outline of what they offer, what they concentrate on doing, a map to where they’re found, opening hours and contact numbers and an e-mail address, any successful use of income-producing Google Adwords and affiliate advertising on those sites, can become a very nice added bonus. By offering an opt-in box, a small business web site owner can make a list, and then offer rebates and offers to those customers by initiating a promotional program.
Web businesses have a much more hard task on their hands. They have much larger competition and must employ S.E.O and a plethora of other selling strategies, particularly to build a list of customers. A website’s acclaim reflects a bunch of things : the age of the site, the consistency with which it is updated, the value of its content and the relevancy of its content and the amount of backlinks it has . Just like a small high street business, a website should offer beneficial information, great shopper service and brand itself as being unique. It’s all about attraction selling.
