How Did Halloween Start?

As kids growing up, we looked forward to nothing more, than being able to dress up in costumes and get candy.  For us Halloween was just about walking around to peoples houses, uttering some stupid line, and getting candy.  Now the trick was to hid some of the candy in your pockets, because your parents always tired to limit your candy intake.  So I was always one step ahead of them.

Although Halloween is about getting candy and dressing up in crazy costumes, that is not how it started.  So How Did Halloween Start?  Well, It started several thousand years ago with Ancient Celtic people who were all about worshiping nature

These pre-christian people say Oct 31st as the end of their year, and they would throw a big party to celebrate.  During this time they believed spirits of the dead could come back and visit.   People actually put food and drink on their front doors, and left their windows open to give them free passage into their homes.

These people believed if you gave these spirits treats, they would not bother or harm you.

As Christianity came to the forefront, they viewed November 1st as All Saints Day.  They would rehearse a pray during this day that was called Allhallowmas.  So with this name, the decided to name the night before All Hakkiwe’en, which is translated to Halloween.

Now this may answer the question “How did Halloween Start“, but to be honest with you, WHO CARES!!!

As long as we can put ridiculous costumes on, and act a fool, that’s all we care about.  Get crazy for a day, life is hard enough, you need to let go sometimes.  Act like a kid, eat some candy, have a party, and just have fun.
