Nancy’s take on God

Yea, I’m going to bring up God.

I’m compelled to for several reasons.

Foremost in my mind is the amount of new friend messages I get from people who are reaching out desperately for someone to read between the lines…

Have you seen this?

How are you today,i really love your pictures you look so sweet and beautiful i will like to introduce my self to you, my name is xxxxxx xxxxxxx, as it is my pleasure to write you after viewing your profile at Facebook and i love it which really interest me in having communication/friendship with you if you will have the desire with me, please i will like you to contact me back soon with my email address, xxxxxxxx2013@yahoo.com So that i can send you my pictures for you to know whom i am and i will tell you more about myself to know each other or you can send me your email address. Yours new friend

Sounds innocent enough, right?

I’ve been receiving something similar to this almost every day from that many people.  They all want me to give them my email…  I did one time!  Almost immediate spam started pouring in!!!  Good thing I didn’t give my primary.

Suppose that was my intuition working…

Anyhow, I have also been approached on skype so I now have a ‘can’ comment I send back stating ‘no thank you’, what do you do for a living?  …they never reply!!  Go figure. (now read between those lines!)

So, what does this have to do with God you ask…

During the past months that I’ve been receiving these messages, I have grown!  I’ve grown to look a god with a new perspective and awareness.  Is she really saying something between the lines?…  (feel free to leave a comment below)

I was raised Presbyterian  and baptized at 16 in a Congregational Church.  During my teenage years, Mom wanted me to make an informed choice so we went to different churches each Sunday…  some we returned to and others we didn’t.

There was one that made me want to throw up during the service.  Probably something to do with an empty stomach and all that incense.  We always went to breakfast afterward.

I saw first hand via summer bible school how different some of them could be!  Some taught the scripture, others just did crafts, still others did a combo of stuff.  There was one that just had us spend two months memorizing the names of the books of the Bible! (and there was crafts, too)

I had a pretty good idea that I didn’t really resonate with Christianity all together but that the Congregational church came the closest to ‘we love everyone, no matter who you are’ and I did resonate with that.

My Mom told me a joke one time that I didn’t get…  The Apollo astronauts came back from space and the reporters were hot for story.  The first question was, “So, you saw God.  What did he look like?”

The reply was, “Well, for one thing, she’s black…”

I didn’t get the joke but it DID invoke some thoughts in me that I hold today about perception.  Does everything need to fit into a mold of what they say?  I think NOT!

I was not exposed to ‘other’ religions anywhere locally other than in school.  I was aware that there was other belief’s out there but never really became familiar with them.  Didn’t need to, they weren’t part of ‘my’ culture.

I will state right here and now that I am not educated on religion or God!
I now know that I don’t need to be!
And here’s why…

It’s not necessary.  I have studied throughout my life the tip of the iceberg called man and always knew there was more for me.  How did I know that?  God.  I believed what I was told as a child, that there is plenty of abundance for all.  Everything is infinite and divine.

I didn’t believe that my faith worked for me, however.  Too many prayers unanswered (or so I thought) and too much time wasted trying for more and never getting there.  Just didn’t work for me.  Somehow, I wasn’t worthy of the good life.

I didn’t even become aware of these feelings until my 30′s.  That was a period of time in my life when I lived alone for many years and got to know myself better and learned to love myself.  But then my prayers started getting answered!

Yep, things started going in the direction I wanted them to and life got better.  My 40′s were much better financially, emotionally, intellectually.  But, somehow I still felt I wasn’t really getting where I wanted to go.

So I went in search of ‘‘.  Eventually, I found it.  Mid 50′s!!!  I was slow but I got there.  Now my pace has quickened!

I have discovered that the Bible (for the most part) was right.  I also discovered that there are only around five religions in the world and they all teach the same thing, the same message about the infinite and the power and the glory.

And, they all pointed right to me.  They all point to you as well.  Each and every one of us is an infinite being capable of God-like action because we are God and God is us.

It’s me.

It’s you.

It’s them….

It’s us.

It’s the divine white light.

I was 10 years old in 1968 which was a huge year for hippie culture, peace, love…  I didn’t get it then.  I began to along the way…  and how wonderful it is.  They were right, in my opinion.

I knew I loved the music.  It still resonates with me to this day.

Those Were the Days, my friend.  We thought they’d never end.  We’d sing and dance for ever and the day.  We’d live the life we choose.  We’d fight and never lose.  Those were the days, oh yes those were the days.

Today, I am so happy and grateful that my life has evolved to a point where I enjoy a greater awareness of my God and self love (not in a selfish way).

I am so very grateful and thankful for the formless substance that surrounds everything. Permeates and penetrates everything.
My God.

I am so grateful that I am more aware of the self limiting beliefs I carried and that I can now fight the forces of evil when they appear.  Surround myself with those who see the bigger picture God intended for us all.

Believe it or not, my God is you God.

Keep smiling with love and light,

Nancy Holtzen
