The Big Dream: Live In The Sun

In 1994 I decidedly had enough of the English weather and told myself that what I really wanted to do was live somewhere where the sun shines most of the year.

Now when I say I had enough of the weather what I really mean is I had had enough of the sixty hour weeks I was working just to stay in the game. My wife and I were both working, Ann was a teacher and I was a Project Engineer in the Automotive Industry basically the company I worked for made car parts. Things like dashboards and door panels stuff like that.

The two of us working was bringing in a nice junk of money but paying the mortgage, paying the car payments, the rates and bills we still didn’t have much left over at the end of the month.

Now we were obviously quite well of, we went on holidays twice a year, had meals out in some fine restaurants, visited places at weekends but one thing got on my nerves and that was the weather.

I just loved the warm climate of the Mediterranean, loved the beach the sea the sunshine and what I wanted to do was to go and live there somewhere you know live in the sun.

The trouble was we were not rich, we didn’t have investments, we didn’t have large pension pots, you see we were both reasonably young, I was in my early thirties, so actually what I wanted to do was what most people do when they are retired, in their sixties or even older.

I could see myself working for another 35 years and then hopping around in my Zimmer frame trying to do what I wanted to do in my thirties. It wasn’t a pleasant outlook, it got me down.

Live In The Sun A Deep Down Burning Desire

But I really had this deep down burning desire to do it all now and not wait years and years and I tell you what having that sort of intent really makes things happen. Well, it did for me.

Look if you really, really want to head of and live in the sun then go on an do it a way will present itself but start the ball rolling by deciding what you have in mind. Really go to town and define it to the finest detail you can

Is it a villa in Spain, a house in Costa Rica, or a beach hut in Bora Bora, go into serious detail and I’m not saying to lie on the couch and visualise all this stuff, not yet anyway .

My Live In The Sun Dream

My dream was to live on a sailing yacht and cruise the Med, I’ll not go into detail here as I have several posts explaining all that on this blog, it’s sufficient to say that it took six years from really defining the dream to actually heading of on my Sailing Yacht Ruffles Spray and living my dream, living in the sun.

Don’t worry about how you are going to finance it all, something will turn up, just like it did for Ann and me, your job is not to work it all out but to chose what you want the rest will all fall into place sometime down the road.
