Driving traffic while watching TV, by tweeting what you watch.
I’m fairly new to Twitter but I’ve managed to grow my twitter Friends (hate followers) to more than 1300 organically. I don’t post often but I do get between 10 and 26 clicks on the links daily. Today an Idea popped into my head about Driving traffic while watching TV.

Now my strategy has been a simple one. I follow and when I’m followed back I reply with a direct message. Something on the lines of
‘Thank you for the follow, I’m spending my time on this at the moment, What about you?’
To be perfectly honest I don’t think this is the best policy as I don’t believe that It produced a vast amount of sign ups. I think I’ll experiment with ‘Thanks for the follow, I look forward to reading your tweets lets connect on Facebook’
I think everybody agrees that you have a greater chance of influencing people if they know you.
What I have noticed is that the traffic I get from Twitter has come from posts and profile links. Unfortunately I can’t always tweet regularly throughout the day. So finding away to automate things will be something I will be looking into next week. But I digress.
Driving traffic while watching TV step 1 Tweet on an event.
Today for an experiment I decided to Tweet my commentary on the Ireland v Wales rugby union international. For anybody that doesn’t know rugby union this was a big game.
(I just had to put this video in 🙂 )
Driving traffic while watching TV step 2 – Tweet a lot.
In total I posted around 60 tweets during an hour and a half time period. Every tweet contained this link http://bit.ly/IrelandvWale5 as you can see I cloaked the link with bit.ly. Once clicked the link took people to a 7minuteworkout squeeze page. Well as many rugby supporters actually play rugby themselves I though that a fitness site might be appropriate.
(on hindsight I should have used this one LINK)
Driving traffic while watching TV step 3 – Measure your results
Here are the results
46 clicks on the above link with most being unique ones. Now the surprising bit over 30 clicks on my profile links. This equates to a doubling of tripling of the traffic I usually get from twitter.
Now apart from the traffic I don’t know if this traffic method will convert into leads and leads into sales buy hay I’ve just spent a few hours watching sport and calling it work. If it does and I can automate some of the tasks then I might be on to something.
Driving traffic while watching TV step 4 – Do it all over again!
What next. Another test
Well, Tonight is Super Bowl Sunday in the US. Longer game. bigger population and a population that loves opportunity it can’t wait.
Tonight, I’m going to be tweeting about the Super Bowl and promoting this.
Today I had an idea and I took action. This is a good post on doing it /MatMathias/art-williams-greatest-ever-speech-just-do-it/
