Music Lessons: Everyone Needs Them

Music Lessons. I learned to read music before I could read words. My mother’s side of the family were all musicians and my father built beautiful musical instruments as a hobby. So I grew up thinking that everybody took music lessons. My grandmother, mother and my aunt all gave music lessons. Now I am the one giving the music lessons. My husband, Ross, and I now own a music school here in Florida

Music Lessons For Children

Studies show that children who take music lessons do better in school and have better SAT scores. Why? Because music is the only subject that engages both sides of the brain. Give a child music lessons and watch their math and reading grades improve.

Music lessons also teach children self-discipline through practicing their instruments. And…the younger, the better. We accept students as young as age 3 and recommend group music programs for younger children.

Here are some examples of how music lessons benefit children:

This is Lilly, a native German speaker. She lives in Germany in the summer and Florida in the winter. Studying voice has helped her English vocabulary and her English is perfect and accent free.

This little guy is Gavin.The discipline of music study has helped him to become a champion cowboy calf roper. (They start them on goats, by the way)!

Ally is an honor student who studies piano and voice. She will be attending an arts high school in the fall.

This is Tommy, who graduated at the top of his high school class. He will be attending The New England Conservatory of Music as a guitar performance major in the fall. Because of his outstanding academic performance, his schooling is virtually free.

Lizzy is the last example that I have chosen. Another honor student, she will begin her second year at Florida State University as a vocal performance major. Again, because of her outstanding academics, her schooling is pretty much paid for.

What is the point? The point is that music lessons have improved the lives of countless children. But what about adults?

Adults Need Music Lessons Too

At our music school, we have students from age 3 to several students in their upper seventies and every age in between. How do music lessons help adults?

Many adults never take a class or memorize anything once they leave school. Music study improves mental skills as well as eye-hand coordination. Music is soothing and pleasant and creates lifetime memories.

I believe that the popularity of such TV shows as American Idol is evidence that many adults wish that they were involved in music. It’s never too late!

Music Lessons Promote Creativity Which Helps Internet Marketers

I was talking to an internet marketer friend of mine who is a fellow musician. We both agreed that using the creative side of our brains through music make us better internet marketers. Why? Well, the main thing is that we are both very comfortable with blogging and coming up with new ideas.
