Keys to Success
What does this phrase make you think of? It means so much to many. For some an image of business suit, laptop, expensive cars, mansions in exotic locations, or a suitcase full of cash!
“Keys to success“, no matter your image or thought are nothing mysterious to be found by a select few in this world. I once heard that “success leaves clues, so pay attention”. In our fast paced society of multitasking to attempt to get more done, in the same amount of time is costing us more than the keys to success.
It’s costing us our health, relationships, peace of mind (what’s left) , self-esteem and our bank accounts. A lack of success can be misunderstood by some as a reason to stop now and move in a new direction. It can also confirm doubts and fears and cause you to become paralyzed in the midst of your journey.
“Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do. More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.”
― Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich
Keys to Success
What can be attributed to so many not finding this illustrious “success”?
For some reason it does not seem obvious to latch on to someone’s success to help discover our own. Our ego wants to take over and figure it out. Many successful entrepreneurs, will tell you the truth, if you want it. A mentor, Tony Rush said, “Your best thinking has produced your current results”. Ouch!
Keys to Success
Okay, once the sting of that statement goes away, you have to agree with the validity and honesty of that statement. I wasn’t in love with it either, but if it takes me a step closer to my set of keys to success, then I’ll just have to keep some icepack for my ego around. However, Zig Ziglar puts it this way:
Let’s face it, when you’re looking for a job, you find someone who’s employed. When you want to learn how to drive, you ask a driver. When we want to know what it’s like being a new parent, we find new parents and grill them! Our success if no different.
It’s one of those things you can’t see from the outside. You don’t see the turmoil, frustration, time, sweat and tears someone has put into the “overnight success” you enjoy from a distance. It can be very misleading and self destructing to an observer trying to grab hold of their set of the “keys to success”.
Success leaves clues! There is normally a pattern found amongst successful people. It would include: a vision, a burning desire to attain that vision, a tenacity to find solutions, instead of focusing on the current challenge, amongst others.
Recently I came across a quote from Donald Trump that I’d like to share: “If you’re going to be thinking, you may as well think BIG”.
Hope this leaves you feeling better, than perhaps before you got here! If it did, please leave a comment and share with a friend.
