Getting your weight off is a Lifestyle Change. As you are losing the weight you will notice yourself esteem raises and it will motivate you to lead a more active lifestyle. There are a number of benefits to weight management including becoming a healthier person without as many medical risks. It’s important to understand that weight management isn’t short-term; it involves a full lifestyle change.
Those that commit wholeheartedly to weight management are more successful because they have changed their entire lifestyle.
I made the mistake by going back to my old lifestyle and I am disappointed I did not continue my lifestyle. You see I was over 200 pounds at 5’1; I got down in about 4 years to around 125-130. I felt the best I had in years, I ran two marathons, several ½ marathons, hiked and going to the gym. After my last marathon I had an injury. I am not sure what I did, but running even a mile killed me. I thought I would let my body rest, oh boy did I ever, one year later not focusing on my health, and I am now over 160. I always say if you are happy being overweight, than that is your choice but as soon as you are not, it is time to make a change. That is where I am today. I am making a commitment to myself and making a lifestyle change forever!
Creating a lifestyle change
That is why I have committed myself to take a 90 day challenge; really it is a 90 day challenge to get back to the weight management lifestyle. It is not about losing the weight and then going back to my lazy ways. Diet is around 70% of losing weight. Exercising does assist you in losing weight but mostly firms your body and gets your heart healthier. By changing your lifestyle it will dramatically improve your well-being and your life will be happier. When you feel good about your appearance, you are even more driven to do more things.
You will notice people will compliment you as you are losing your weight. This will boost your self-confidence and you will feel better at the person who stares back at you in the mirror. Take a picture of you today; keep the picture some place you look every day. I did when I was losing weight before and looking back it did really helped me looking back. I even had a horrible picture of myself in a bathing suit. Oh, boy it looked horrible. I made the mistake throwing these pictures away. Don’t Ever Throw them away! Listen to me on this one. You could go back in your old lifestyle like I did. It is not like I did not know I was gaining weight, oh my gosh, I was not fitting into my clothes, and had to buy new ones (I threw out all my big clothing). I look in my closet and I see my small sizes. I will be back in my skinny clothes soon! These are all things that you should remember and keep with you so that you don’t go backwards. By making a constant effort to be stronger and modify your lifestyle, you can keep up your new image for the rest of your life.
Log your results –
Log what you are eating to stay focus, log your fitness activity, how you are feeling that day and write down your weight. I know you probably say I don’t want to log this, but trust me when you get on the scale and you see the positive results, you will be happy the whole day. It will get you through another day of focusing on your goal. I did this almost every day and it does work. I also still have my pair of my size 18 jeans. I would put them on through out losing my weight. When I got down to a size 4, it was like two or three of me. Now, not so much…but you bet I will keep those jeans. I does feel really good when you can slip on the pants without having to unzip or un-button them.
Part of changing up your lifestyle is to understand what got you into your weight problems to begin with.
If you eat when you’re stressed or bored, then you need to replace those activities with something else – or find something healthier to snack on. If you are one to have a sweet tooth, chew on a piece of guy to satisfy your sweet tooth. By learning how to deal with your stress in a positive manner, it can help you to manage your weight more effectively.
The same goes for when you eat all of your meals. Eating late at night can cause a number of digestive problems which can lead to keeping weight on. When you learn to eat earlier, it will be a lifestyle change that will help you to keep all of your weight off year after year. This is your ultimate goal because once it’s off; you should never have to look back at the larger version of you ever again.
Fitness is a great thing to add in your lifestyle. It will help you deal with your stress and get your blood pumping. Going for a jog, joining a gym or taking a bike ride can be the boost that you need that helps you stay physically fit. Again, it’s a lifestyle change but it will help you with your weight management.
The more you modify your lifestyle, the better it will be to maintain your ideal weight. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, so modification is the key to your success. You will be happy with your results. Your will be so proud of yourself making this lifestyle change.
