Recover And Move Forward

There is a Disney Movie called Meet the Robinson. I have to say that it is one of my favorite movies, if not my favorite movie of all times. The moral of the movie is no matter how many times you fail, you need to “Keep Moving Forward.” So with that being said, last year was a very hard year for my family and I. We had things happen to us that I never dreamed would happen. Now don’t get me wrong, I know that there are people out there that are going through worse experiences, but when it happens to you, you tend to only think about your situation.

Feeling Sorry For Yourself

In the midst of going through the pain, you tend to begin to question how did it happen and why is it happening to you. You start to find fault in others and sometimes don’t realize that you contributed to the situation. But during the haze, you don’t see that. You tend to make yourself the victim. You tend to feel like you are the only one in the situation. I am the type that holds on to things, until there is a stressor that brings everything out to the surface. When you are in that moment you are not thinking about being able to recover and move forward, you are thinking about what got you to that point.

During the last few days of 2011, I hit my final “stressor.” It seemed as if any and everything that could go wrong was going wrong. It wasn’t enough that we were still trying to recover from the previous events, but just when we felt like there was a light at the end of the tunnel, it started to get dark again. It took some listening and self searching in order to realize what needs to be done. In order for me or rather us to recover and move forward, I needed to accept that things were going to happen. I needed to be able to share with those around me how I was feeling and what I was thinking. I needed to realize that doing the same thing or going through the same patterns and motions were only going to keep me in the same spot in life. If I really wanted to recover and move forward, I was going to have to change my patterns and way of thinking.

Lessons Learned In Order To Recover And Move Forward

Although these things have happened, I have learned several things. Nothing in life in guaranteed. What we have today, we may not be able to hold on to so it can be easily taken away. I have also learned that some of the people that you would expect to have your back, really don’t. They used you while things were good and then when things got rough, made a run for the hills to leave you high and dry. The last thing and most important thing that I learned through all this, is that at the end of the day all I really have is my family. Through all the pain and hurt, they have been here going through the emotions with me.

I will Recover And Move Forward….

So what does it mean to recover and move forward. It means not taking what you have for granted. It means appreciating what you have. It means taking the bad and making it better. It means using the bad things that have happened and fueling your actions into a fire to be your motivation. It means recovering and moving forward to making your life better. I told myself that last year was the year of our trial and tribulations. This year, 2012, will be our year for success and prosperity.
