Building Your Internet Marketing Business Can Be Like Jumping On A Cable Car In San Francisco.
If you’ve ever been to San Francisco, you’ve either seen or actually ridden on one of the famous San Francisco Cable Cars. The longest of the three line begins at the Powell & Market Street turntable, running from there up and over Nob Hill and down to Ghiradelli Square at Fisherman’s Wharf.
For those not familiar with San Francisco, the picture to the right shows a cable car as it descends downward to Fisherman’s Wharf with the famous Alcatraz prison in the background.
Our first rider boards the cable car at the turntable at Powell/Market streets and rides the entire length to the opposite turntable at Ghiradelli Square. This rider experienced everything there is to see, feel and touch along the route.
Our second rider was doing some shopping downtown and boarded the trolley at California Street then continued their journey to the final destination of Ghiradelli Square. This shaved about 1/3 of the ride off for our second traveler.
Two more riders jump the trolley before it reaches the turntable, each riding less than just a few of it’s entire 30 block trip, both riding the trolley to it’s final destination at Ghiradelli Square as their goal.
Everyone who steps off the trolley at Ghiradelli Square could have jumped on at any given point. They may have ridden the entire 30 block route all the way from Powell & Market. They my have only seen 2/3 of the route like our second traveler who jumped on at California and Powell. Or, they may have been just to tired to walk to the top of Nob Hill, jumped on the trolley on Geary Street and hopped off a few blocks later on Sacramento to avoid the uphill walk.
My point is that everyone on the cable car either boarded or departed from a different location. Therefore, each person had a different experience and now has a different perception of the city depending on that location even though they all ended up at the same destination which was the turntable at the end of the route at Ghiradelli Square.

When we make the decision to start our own Internet Marketing business we are like the travelers on the cable car. All of us have a goal to get to Ghiradelli Square but we may have all got on the cable car at different locations. Therefore, non of us have had the same experience and now don’t have the same perception of the ride that all the other travels do.
Everyone who jumped the trolley ended up reaching their goal of moving to their final destination at Ghiradelli Square. But, it didn’t take everyone the same amount of time or effort to get there. It all depended on where they started from!
Just like in our internet marketing businesses. We don’t all start from the same place.
When most people start an internet marketing business they concentrate on systems, tools and tricks. Most of these are provided to them by “Gurus” professing that the particular item they are “hocking” is what made them the wealthy genius they are today.
This is NEVER 100% true. Yes, it does take a system to start an internet marketing business. True, there are some excellent tools out there that can automate some of your processes. But the tools, gimmicks and gadgets are not what is going to make you succeed.
I have observed many people who use the same internet marketing system, have the same tool set available and were mentored by the same Guru but get drastically different results with what appears to be the same effort.
In these cases, the difference between success and failure is coming from their MINDS not their system or tools. Success in your internet marketing business depends on where you are in life when the cable car comes by and it’s time to step up. Some of us are at the beginning of the line and need the full ride. Some of us are only a block away from the final destination.
This explains why two people can use the same tools, take the same actions and get different results.
There are basic, natural, physical laws of success that if followed will generate more success than all the systems and tools on the web combined. Preparing and using your MIND will become your most POWERFUL tool.
Newbies in internet marketing are always approaching those who have achieved success with one single question, “what is the SECRET to success in internet marketing”? The response is ALWAYS the same…
First, THERE IS NO SECRET. Second, you have to BELIEVE in yourself. You have to KNOW that you have what it takes to be successful. You have to be able to SEE and FEEL yourself reaching your goal even as you start.
So, as you start your own internet marketing endeavor, look for a system or a mentor that includes developing your MIND as your most powerful marketing tool. And for those of you who have already started internet marketing but have not seen results I guarantee that this is the number one cause of people getting discouraged, deciding they have made the wrong choice and jump to the next shiny object that comes along.
I KNOW this because I experienced it.
I knew what I wanted to do I just didn’t know how to do it. I did like everyone does. I asked Google. And, the Heavens opened…
With emails. From Gurus. From Companies. I had no idea there were so many different ways to make money. This is going to be easy! I’m going to be RICH!
I bought dozens of programs spending tens of thousands of dollars and had some very successful mentors. I did exactly what I was told to do.
They didn’t work…
Then, in 2012 I responded to a banner ad on an unknown website. By now I had grown pretty numb to banner ads and “hockers”. I had no idea at the time why I clicked on the link (I now understand the physics of what was going on at the time).
The link took me to a video that offered a complete system built and customized just for me where I could start driving traffic to a pre-built sales funnel by blogging. You see why I was excited about this new find.
I didn’t fully understand it, but finally stumbled through the sign up process. As I did, I was introduced to the “Basic Training Module”. In it was discussed “8 core commitments” that later the co-founder of the company told me “you know, we can’t promise anyone ANY certain income amount because we have no idea where they have come from or the action THEY will take to work their business, but to date, we have never had anyone who REALLY followed these 8 core commitments that did not meet with success within 90 days of doing so”.
He was right. In the last year I have left the corporate world and now use this system to make a full time living working from home, blogging. I have also seen this same transformation come to many others as well. Every 90 days we have people who are now speaking on stage, collecting big over sized checks who 90 days earlier were bankrupt or had physical challenges or any other scenario you can think of and have now met with success by following the 8 core steps…
Two of the 8 commitments have created the most success for me. First is the commitment to listen to at least one part of any of the training videos or audios each day. The second one is the commitment to read daily. Since we all jump on the cable car from different locations our needs are all different. Therefore, the selected training material you watch/listen to or the reading material you choose is up to you. Once you start to take action your subconscious mind will push you onto the cable car we call success.
