I am in trouble. My biggest goal is to work from home but as I am not yet started my transition from full time job to the work from home goddess where I can also bake, run and do errands and sit in groovy coffee shops sipping lattes with my laptop, the real life me is juggling two jobs. My day job in the office and night shift internet marketing, blogging and researching. Its a hard gig! But I have come a long way in the part ten months and am really excited to see some of work paying off. So where was I… I am in trouble because I have neglected my partner and kids as a pursue my online entrepreneurial businesses. Tonight I have promised to close the office door and spend all evening enjoying my family’s company so here are my Tips for working from home.
Tips for Working from Home
- Involve your partner and older kids as much as possible with what you are doing. The more involved they are the more they will understand when you had deadlines and will support you.
- If you are juggling a full time job as well, save some time during the day to jot down any blog posts, or on your lunch break to write so it will save you time in the night.
- Eat and Sleep well. Unfortunately there are still only 24 hours in the day. The ultimate goal is a residual income but you have to still trade the effort, do the education and training and homework to earn that income. It still takes time but hopefully the more you do the more expert you become.
- If your kids are young (i.e. from toddler age up to school), working at home is almost impossible. You really don’t want them sitting in front of the TV all day. Although working from home sound ideal at some time you do need the peace and quiet to do that work. My kids stopped their day naps a year ago so unfortunately you may still have to look into alternative care arrangements during part of the day to get your work done.
- Turn off Internet social media distractions. For me that is compulsive Facebook checking or news.com checking, or ebay, or etsy, Twitter or YouTube. Turn it off!
- Get some Exercise! This is something I am actioning this week. After ten months of sitting at a desk at work and working late nights, even though I am eating healthy there is a constant need to get those endorphins going from good exercise.
In summary in reviewing my Tips for working from home list I think you need super duper Time Management Skills! What are your tips to working from home?
