This was not the first sentence of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech. This was well into the speech before he began to talk really emotionally and getting to the heart of his text. If you read the transcript, which you can find , you’ll see that there are a lot of things that led up to this part of the speech.
What is amazing to me and so symbolic of how passion really truly outlines what is memorable, is that when we think of the words that we remember about his speech, the first words that we remember is ‘I have a dream’
When you watch any recordings of this famous speech, you can’t help but be caught up in that moment. To be caught up in the emotion that is being expressed on Dr. King’s face. It’s almost hypnotic. That is true passion. That is what having a dream is; having passion. When you think of speeches you can remember, this has to be one of the most passionate.

How does Dr. Martin Luther King’s I have a dream speech apply to our lives today?
Today, we struggle. We struggle with financial security, we struggle with war around the world and we struggle conflicts within our own country. There’s always a struggle and there’s always challenges, but Dr. King has a dream to overcome all of that. When you think about it, why can’t you have a dream? If there are struggles you’re facing, why can’t your dream overcome those?
I’ve been lucky enough to be part of an organization that can overcome struggles. Struggles that have kept me from moving froward. Things that have kept me from not going after my dreams. I’ve found the tools to help me do what I want and to get there with less struggle.
Passion is what will carry you and having a dream that pushes you to the next level. One that keeps you going even when you are facing obstacles.
