Friends and family make camping a really fun experience. Nobody should go without at least trying camping once. Camping does need preparation and research. Look to the post below for some excellent pointers to make your camping trip exceptional.

Food poisoning is a common ailment while camping. Bring preserved foods and foods that don’t spoil easily. Make sure there is plenty of ice in the cooler for perishables, and do not fail to drain the cooler regularly to prevent soaking the food.

If you plan on pitching your tent in an area that has a snake population, make sure you snake-proof your campsite. This means avoid going near thick brush, piles of rocks and woodpiles. Check boots, bags and clothes regularly; snakes like to hide in these items. Seal off your tent each night and build up dirt around the edges so a snake can’t slither under the tent.

Waterproof matches should be added to your camping survival kit. Store them inside an airtight container. You can take ordinary matches and make them waterproof when you dip them into nail polish or paraffin. You can make a carrying case for matches by putting them in a film canister or a small plastic medicine bottle.

Make sure you have discussed all types of medical issues with a doctor ahead of time. Perhaps there are complications associated with camping. The change is that this isn’t necessary, but you should never take the risk without asking first, so that you can ensure your trip is safe.

Figure out how to identify poisonous plants prior to going on a camping trip. It can sometimes be hard to distinguish non-poisonous plants from poisonous plants, unless you know exactly what to look out for. Pick up a book on what these poisonous plants look like or research it on the Internet. This will help you steer clear of mistakenly touching one of these plants.

It may sound obvious, but your campsite is not your house. Don’t leave piles of trash after you’ve completed your trip. When your camping is over, you should strive to leave the area just as you found it. When you respect nature, you make sure it will still be around for others.

While you think nature will provide enough wood for your fire to continue burning, it may be wet, which will not burn. To prevent this problem, bring along a few pieces of your own wood. Make sure to keep that wood dry in your car or another secure location.

Use a worn shower curtain as an inexpensive, disposable tarp for under your tent. You could also use it as a floor for your washing or cooking area, allowing you to control the run-off. Don’t throw away a shower curtain; use it for your next camping trip.

Camping is a very enjoyable way to spend your time. However, it is crucial that you are educated on the topic. Use these tips to prepare for your next outing. By utilizing the information above, your trip is certain to be a greater success than you thought possible.
