I Just Deleted a Guru

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Today I had to do something that I never thought I would do.  I just deleted a guru.  A well-known Internet marketing personality.  I considered opting out of their emails earlier in the week, but I decided to wait to see if things changed.

It didn’t change….

The reason I deleted the guru is because the emails started feeling elitist and angry.  The first day I received an angry email from this individual I gave them the benefit of the doubt.  I thought that maybe they just had a bad day or they were tired.  Not true.

Today, I received another email and it was just full of anger, resentment and belittling people.  I decided that it was time to cut this person out of life.

I made a pact with myself about one year ago.  I decided that I would not allow anyone to be in my life that wasn’t adding value (or) anyone that brought my energy down.  Well….unfortunately….this person was REALLY bringing my energy down.  Bad vibes.

We spend enough time improving ourselves that we don’t need people tearing down what we have built inside ourselves.  We need to continue to grow and prosper.  Once I realized that these emails were smashing me emotionally I knew I had to let them go….

Have you ever had to release someone from your life??

Did you feel better once you knew that person was no longer going to influence you??  When I was in high school I hung out with a small group of people that liked to “critique” other people when they would walk by.  I quickly realized that this group wasn’t acidic because of the majority.  The group was acidic because of the minority.  There was one person who had nothing but bad stuff to say about everybody.

One day I decided it was time to distance myself from this person.  It was a tough decision for me because I had to abandon my other friends temporarily until they realized how bad this person had become for everyone.  It didn’t take long for the others to have the same epiphany….

I eventually got to rejoin the group after the cist was removed from the group.  We all commented that the group had a different vibe with this person gone.  Sometimes you just have to let people go.

If you have been hanging out with people that are bringing you down or having a negative influence on your life don’t you think it’s time to let them go??

Thanks for stopping by….

P.S.  Leave a comment about an experience you have had with people that have brought you down emotionally??  After you cut them out of your life how did you feel??

P.S.S.  Let me tell you I am so glad I just deleted a guru.  I had to many pointless emails hitting my inbox anyway….lol.
