Don’t take away my Guns!

There has been much heated debate of whether guns should be taking away from citizens. Honestly I have a gun because it is a just in case factor. I want to be able to protect my family just in case someone decides to break into my house. The gun also is a last resort as I am prior military with gun training so if I shoot an intruder the courts will take it seriously.  I also have 2 other deterrents in my house, which are Chante and Bruno. Chante is a 250 lb bull mastiff and Bruno is an American bull dog boxer mix. Both are very scary to look at.  The fact of the matter is this. People need guns in order to protect themselves.  I will use my favorite scenario to explain.  Let’s say you are a 100 lb woman and a 300 lb man decides he wants to rape you. What is the 100 lb woman going to do against the 300 lb man? She can try to fight but eventually lose. She may know martial arts but at any time he can get the upper hand. What’s the best thing for her? Of course the best thing for her is to carry a gun. I have another scenario, let’s say there is an 85 year old man who has lived in his neighborhood for 30 years and starts to notice over the last 5 years the neighborhood has had some undesirables move in. Everyone know this old man and he walks to the store every day.  What is he suppose to do when 5 men threaten to rob him on the street.  He can’t fight them off. He has no chance of running. He would need to have a gun.  We can go round and round on this all day.  I find the people who want guns taken away are people who just don’t care about there own safety because they don’t have to. They don’t have to worry about the neighborhood they live in. They feel secure enough in their environment that they think “I don’t need a gun where I live so why should you have a gun where you live?” You have to walk a mile in a man’s shoes to understand their environment. For instance I will tell you a personal story where a gun would have come in handy for me. When I first moved to Maine I was partying like a rock star. It was a time in my life where I had money coming in from the military and it was good money so I was always out at the clubs. I met a woman and we had a good time and we back to her place.  A couple of hours later I would probably say it was 3 am her ex boyfriend is pounding on her window.  I immediately called the cops after confronting him at the front door. The woman I was with at the time hung up my phone because she didn’t want the cops involved. Well it took them an hour to find us. Their excuse was, “You have to use a land line phone when you call us so that we can track you better.”  This was also back in 2005 so hopefully that’s not the case anymore since everybody has a cell phone these days. So you can look at the situation in one of 2 ways.  If I had a gun I could have prevented him from doing any harm to her and I before the cops showed up. The cops took so long we both could have been dead.  Another way to look at it is if he had a gun then we both would have been at his mercy. Taking away guns from the people is only going to make it easier for the bad guys to get guns and subjugate the people. Don’t take away my Guns!!
