The more you get into it, the more you may realize that organic gardening can be a little on the complicated side. This is especially true if you want to garden naturally. You may need to learn everything from soil pH to controlling pests without chemicals. Growing an organic garden can be a bit difficult for a newbie. Use the tips below to grow like a pro.

While it’s harder to grow organically than chemically, the rewards are much better. Growing your crops organically will offer the best reward for those who eat the foods.

Mix onion, garlic, and chives into water to produce a pest-repelling spray. Add chopped garlic, the chives or onions sliced finely, and one half cup of water in a container. Strain this concoction into a spray bottle.

TIP! If you are growing plants inside of your home, you need to keep the thermostat set to 65 to 75 degrees during the day. Young plants need a temperature within that specific range to grow.

The buddy system can even help your garden. When certain plants are planted near one another, they will assist their each other in growing. By repelling pests and making the soil healthier, they reduce the need for fertilizers or pesticides. For example, any plant that has a heavy smell will help repel pests.

Calibrate how much you water based upon the time of the year and the weather conditions. Other factors that influence how much you need to water include time of day, soil factors and how hard your water is. Avoid watering leaves in a warm and humid climate to prevent leaf fungus from appearing. Rather, make sure the root system is watered.

Be specific about the things you desire to grow when it comes to your organic garden. Some flowers and vegetables require specific types of soil, a certain moisture level, and direct or indirect sun exposure. For example, some varieties of roses will thrive in a particular home garden, whilst others will wilt and die. Therefore, you need to be sure that the varieties you chose to plant, are most suited to the growing environment present in your garden.

TIP! Plant trees on your property in such a way as to maximize the amount of shade they provide your house. Your trees can provide natural cooling by shading your house.

When checking out tomatoes to buy, do a bit of poking in the soil. Even if the plant looks lush on the upper leaves, the root system can have problems. These starts will stick to the seedlings for quite some time, which prevents the seedlings from growing until the starts are gone.

If you have problem slugs in your organic garden, get rid of them naturally with a beer trap. Bury a single glass jar with the open mouth level with your soil in the garden. Now, fill the jar with beer to approximately an inch below the lip. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.

It only takes a few simple steps to whip up an amazing garden for all of your perennials. Cut underneath the turf, then flip it. Next, use wood chips to cover the area. Wait a few weeks before planting perennials in the new bed.

TIP! Biodiversity is a key element of your organic garden. When you have a bigger variety of plants, you also attract different wildlife as well.

Weeds can plague all types of gardens. Fortunately, there are many organic products that can be used to kill weeds without harming the environment.

Now, you shouldn’t get your hopes up and believe that a few tips are going to turn you into an instant professional gardener. However, these tips are a great starting point if you do plan to grow organically. As you implement these tips and hone your skills, you’ll be a professional green-thumb-holder in no time.
