Hey there,
Well we always LOVE watching Mrs Brown’s Boys and look forward to a good laugh. Last week we got an insight into the real man behind the show – Brendan O’Carroll and it was such a pleasure.
The show is about an older Irish woman and her 6 adult children, 5 boys and 1 girl and her father in law…Grandad. There are story lines around each character filled with laughs.
Who is Mrs Brown, Brendan O’Carroll of course…
Mrs Agnes Brown is in fact a man – Brendan O’Carroll who is from Ireland (that I am sure you knew already). He lives there with his family who act with him on the show. Included in Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown’s Boys cast is his wife Jenny (Cathy), his daughter Fiona (Maria), his son Danny (Buster) and daughter in law Amanda (Betty).
Brendan O’Carroll has certainly been through his struggles in life but has come out smiling on the other side now that the BBC has given him his own show. It’s great to see how much he loves his children and when he meets someone they are greeted with a warm Irish hug. What a great spirit…

Brendan grew up dirt poor in Dublin, one of 11 children in a three-bedroom home. His father died when Brendan was just nine years old, leaving his mother to raise the family alone.
Since that tough childhood, he’s endured further setbacks – from the tragedy of losing a son at just three days old, to a failed pub venture that left him without a penny to his name and a planned film project that went belly up on the first day of filming, again leaving him flat broke. Mrs Brown
Mrs Brown’s Boys started off as a radio show that Brendan O’Carroll put together and then eventually became a stage production and now a BBC live audience show. I think that a live audience certainly adds to the feel of the show and when you see the actors actually making mistakes or trying not to laugh it adds to the fun.
Brendan O’Carroll’s ad libbing that goes on just makes it that bit funnier!
Now many would say that Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown’s Boys is rude, crude, vulger and not suitable for viewing. HOWEVER we disagree. Language is just that – language and when a ‘rude’ word is used with an Irish accent such as Brendan’s, well it just aint rude anymore. It’s funny, feckin funny!!
Whether it was the time where Agnes Brown was waxing in the toilet under the stairs or the time she picked up the taser thinking it was the phone, we had tears of joy and laughter.

My particular argument is that it is about time we had something to watch at the end of the day when people have been at work all day, picked the kids up from school, cleaned the house, cooked the dinner, fed the animals, ran to the shops, taken the kids to sports training or games, etc, etc, the list goes on – again it is about time we had something to watch that makes us laugh, puts a smile on our faces, makes us happy, instead of watching people getting murdered, committing crimes, kidnapping people, people committing adultery, etc, etc. Enough said!
Yes, there are times when you want to watch an action packed drama or your favourite thriller however we need shows like this too for all the reasons listed above.
For us oldies (40 plus), it brings back memories of perhaps our Grandparents (mine were Scottish and English) and what it was like with the ‘older’ generation back in the ‘old days’. That’s what it feels like to me.
NOW…Brendan O’Carroll is bringing Mrs Brown’s Boys to Australia.
Yeah, can’t wait. We now realise that the story line of the eldest son Mark immigrating to Australia for employment reasons is part of the story and that there will be a new chapter to discover.
