Jets Waive Tim Tebow

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Tim Tebow waived by the New York Jets

Tim Tebow was waived today by the N.Y Jets. The Jets, who have become one of the worst run, most mismanaged team in the NFL, let Tebow go after one season despite the Jets having traded for Tebow just one year earlier.

The Jet’s drafting of Geno Smith made is almost a certainty that Tebow would be released.

The question is why the Jets ever traded for Tim Tebow in the first place since it was obvious that he was never going to be allowed to play.

I say it is obvious as Mark Sanchez was repeatedly allowed to play some of the worst football ever seen by a starting NFL quarterback yet Rex Ryan never even gave Tebow the opportunity to sink or swim.

Sure, Tebow’s game is full of flaws but technique and talent sometimes takes a back seat to the will and drive to win.

Who cares how awful your quarterback looks if he is putting wins on the board? Tebow has shown he is a winner. Winning ugly is far better than losing. That is something the Jets under Rex Ryan apparently know nothing about.

Of course, there are lots of people who profess their sport’s expertise who post on the various sports blogs and forums whose only comments on Tebow are that he can’t do this or he can’t do that. Tey overlook the bottom line: Wins. Those people could work for the Jets.

The bottom line for any quarterback is: do they win. People need to get over the “how” and focus on the “if” as in, they need to stop worrying about “how” bad Tebow looks in comparison to the prototype NFL quarterback and concentrate on “if” his team wins or if it loses.

Look at Denver, they dumped Tim Tebow for THE prototype quarterback in Peyton Manning and paid Manning a boatload of money. Results: Manning didn’t get the Broncos any further in the playoffs than Tebow did.

Give Tim Tebow a Legitimate Opportunity

Someone needs to put their ego on the back burner and give Tim Tebow a legitimate shot at being the starting quarterback. If he can’t bring the wins, then get rid of him. However, Tim Tebow’s career is probably over because their isn’t one GM that has the balls to win ugly.

Every one of them would prefer to lose with a prototypical starting quarterback than risk the negative comments that would surely be directed their way if they signed Tebow.

Can Tebow be a winning starting quarterback in the NFL over a full campaign? I think he has shown he is a winner and deserves the chance. I don’t think we will ever know.

If you have any thoughts on Tim Tebow and his treatment by the Jets, the Broncos and the NFL in general, leave them in the comment box below.
