This is film criticism and nothing else, which makes it the rarest thing you will find in this company. No marketing, no opportunity, no invitation to join anything. Twelve reviews written by somebody who watches carefully and can explain why a picture works.
He treats a pool hall film as a dark examination of what winners and losers mean in America, rather than as a story about a fat man and a table. He places a buddy cop picture inside what that decade was doing with cynicism and satire, and names the screenwriter alongside the director. He reviews a short pitch trailer by a director almost nobody has heard of and admits it made him feel something he had not felt in a long while.
The selection leans toward horror, action and westerns, with a comedy and one very dry ensemble picture among them.
