Hi Everyone,

I’ve been sat on Youtube most of the nite going over my past in musical memories. It’s funny how music can relate and take you back to a certain moment in time. I’ve always had a passion for listening to music and killing a good song with my bad scottish accent and vocals lol.

One of the earliest memories i have are of a song called “Tell Laura I Love Her”. My neighbour next door was pregnant and I listen to this song ALL the time on repeat if i had to lol. Well when her daughter was born, guess what she called her?

Laura. Well Laura if you ever read this or hear this I do apologise to you. Your mums name is Patricia, you lived in Ford Crescent in Stevenston, Ayrshire and were born in the 80′s.

Music has always been a way for me to “Time Travel”. I can get lost for hours at a time.

White Snake – 16 years old going to work at 06:30 to Kavaerner in Govan.
Tina Turner – 17 years old, being lost with my life and so young, not knowing what to do, YTS not working or getting me anywhere. So Joining the Army was my next move.
Elvis – Well this has been a life long love. Now he does bring back so many memories over the years for me, too many to list here.
Dougal – Happy Hard Core – 1998 to 2001. If I listen to this on Youtube thats it you wont find me for a while. I get so lost in them years. I have regrets, I have memories, The things I did and the people that I met.
The Commodores – When I was in Trade Training in the Army I only had one tape with me and it was the Commodores. Many a nite they helped me fall asleep.
Madonna – Her early stuff when she was just out, this takes me back to being a kid, stevenston, Egg, sleep overs, also some of her songs were around the time of McKinlay’s roller skating with Charles McIver, Graham Moore and Janet Clark there was also a girl called Fiona.
Celin Dion – This was me in Krefeld in Germany. It was an Amazing Time for me but it was also one of the hardest times emotionally. There wasn’t really anyone to tell or talk to about what was going on but in my head it was life and death.

In 2000 or so “Sash” was playing and that was a complete change in my musical taste. The beat i couldnt get enough of. I loved the speed of it, the tunes, very little words sometimes. York and Leeds had an amazing amount of all nite dance clubs where you could just go and bounce your nut off all nite. Not too sure i could do it now lol.

Now when Eminem came out, oh my i hated that music, i wasn’t into Rap or that style. In the Army it was played and was a release. However Eminem sang the fantasies I had at the time. I could go and kill someone and get away with it cause he sang me through it. I could live my anger through his songs. I like his later songs but the early stuff was what really helped me. I listen to it now and i’m instantly back there and I know the thought process I was going through.

An Example – I stayed in one nite and was listening to his songs, i had just split up with my ex and I was raging with anger. I drank a bottle of Vodka with the intention of just getting pissed and sleeping it off.

I woke up in the morning and there was a girl beside me. Erm WTF, turns out i was in the Nite Club most of the nite and was a bit of a party animal, upstairs in the flat there were a crowd of people I had brought back to the flat and we had a party.

Even to this day I have no memory of that nite. Things were a little bit crazy way back then when I was single.

Here is some “Sash“. Now at the time my car had two big Speakers, subs, amps and uprated stereo. SO the base would blow you away. Now although i do still have a sub and big speakers its now designed to drown out the kids and their arguments.

It just gets you going doesn’t it. We did a lot of the niteclubs back then. Sometimes going out on the Monday and not returning for a few months cause of all the dancing we were doing. Now this next one is one that Gets Me HYPER

Right let me calm down a bit now. The very earliest memory i have is of Rod Steward and Do You Think I’m Sexy, i remember this on LP and playing it in the living room on the record player. I must have been 4 or 5 but it was a fun song and really made me listen to the lyrics.

Well that is my musical journey from the 70′s. I’m sure in ten or so years from now the music that i hear and what the kids are playing will have a memory or make an impact on me. However just now its 1 Direction and stuff like that. I say stuff like that cause I don’t even know their names. Sign of the times lol.
