I started my weight loss journey a bit over a year ago when I watched the movie Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. It definitely made me believe in the power of juicing, and in the power of green juice!
I ran out and bought a juicer and lots of veggies. I tried lots of juicing recipes, and ended up wasting a lot of produce when I realized how much I didn’t like some recipes. I finally settled into a routine and my main juicing staple was the Joe Cross green juice recipe aka Mean Green.
I often substitute different greens depending on what’s on sale or what looks good… but it’s always basically the same.
Mean Green Recipe
1 lemon (peeled)
3 stalks of celery
5 or 6 leaves of Kale
1 or 2 handfuls of spinach
1 cucumber
2 green apples
Juice it up and drink it down.
The kale in the mean green recipe can be somewhat strong. If you make it and don’t like it, try only using a couple leaves of kale and upping it a little at a time until you get used to it. Mean green can definitely be an acquired taste, but I love it.
You can also substitute any kind of green for the kale ~ but kale is a superfood! It has tons of protein, and tons of vitamins A and C as well as Iron, and Calcium! So definitely get it in there if you can!
I fell off the juicing bandwagon for a while… but the last couple weeks my body has been craving mean green so I grabbed up the ingredients today at the store and made one for lunch. I forgot how delicious it was and how much I enjoyed it.
Enjoy your Mean Green… and your health.
