HOW TO BEGIN MAKING VIDEOS

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

You don’t need an expensive camera. A cheap one is ok.

You don’t need to edit anything you make. Just put it out there, and improve each video over the last one.

You can talk about anything you choose as long as you are interesting to your audience.

When you speak ,  speak to an individual, not an audience. Make sure you are doing this, as you cannot get an audience to listen. Only individuals can be interested.

The FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO  in your videos is the captivate the person! Capture the attention of your viewer! Tell the person anything that will distract the person from what is going on in his life that moment. You want his entire attention. Say something like “I want to brush my teeth. Ever felt that way? Ever want to do that?” See, that is not connected to anything that is going to be spoken about. You said it to get attention. You want to stand out, and to captivate them and give them something that they want to get. Tell them what they will get if they watch this video all the way through.

You need to get someone to a point where he is certain that there is something to know, some value. There is a reason to watch. They need to believe you. There is a value to be had, so listen and watch. There are many many things that have value. You can construct anything that the person may want . You can give them 90 percent of what they want, and let the listener know that if he takes action, he will get the rest of the information. If he buys–takes action–he will get the rest. He has to understand that if he acts, he will get the rest.

If you speak ambiguously, so the listener does not know what you said, he will fill in the blank and feel a particular way, and you will decide what was said, and have a positive break-through from listening to the video! There was nothing said specifically, but there was enough said that the listener believes it was said. He sold himself.

When you talk about religion or about politics, you should not offend anyone  by saying something that goes against what someone believes. Stay ambiguous. Politicians use this. Ministers use it. The listener fills in the blanks. He decides what you said. In this way, the listener votes for him, or the listener decides to buy. In this way, you don’t resist the listener’s views and he does not resist your talk. Ambiguous language produces a feeling–YOUR LANGUAGE PRODUCES A FEELING.  The agreement between you adn the audience is made this way.

The listener needs to know that there is benefit to staying and listening to the video.  There is a reason to watch the entire thing. And then give him the value that you promised, BUT WITHHOLD THE REST OF WHAT YOU WILL SAY–they have to do some action–buy, join, etc, they will get the rest of the talk IF THEY ACT.

Your target audience for what you are selling is much bigger, probably, than you think it is. There are many many people who will pay attention to you if you expand your world view a little. Belief systems, thinking, etc, you need to cover something or address something that each individual can see as real. It is the reality and situation that someone has, that will make people want to listen. For example, talk about being broke. Then talk about working so hard that you had no time. Then talk about improving by hard work. These things are real to people. Some of these people are familiar with broke,. some are familiar with hard work, some people are familiar with having their income grow exponentially.

This is the general idea of an important concept in making a video that will sell.

Jeff Hendrick
